Description: if you read that is :)

Reaper - June 11, 2006 08:30 AM (GMT)
just out of interest i wanna know what kinda books everyone is reading :) personally i only ever read fantasy novels, currently i am reading a great series called "the wheel of time" by robert jordan, it's kinda screwing my exams up as i'm reading instead of studying but ohwell :D

so what's everyone else reading?

Arrowen - June 11, 2006 09:22 AM (GMT)
I'm reading Taming of the Shrew its a shakespeare play
absolutly brilliant story

Farseer Concerta - June 11, 2006 10:03 AM (GMT)
wait you are reading wheel of time i only know 1 person who has read that and it is my bro!

well i'am reading the dune novels again :P

Inquisitor Liechtenstein - June 11, 2006 10:11 AM (GMT)
I'm currently working my way through The Meaning of Life, the Univers and Everything, which is the third part of the trilogy of five the is the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The funny thing is that I've been reading it for about the last three months, as I keep getting distracted (primarily by the Witch Hunters Codex). The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy is a brilliant read, and all should attempt it, it's just great.

Also, if anyone wants a good action book, try Where Eagles Dare, by Alaster MacLean. I just loved it so much I read it six times in one year. It's one of those books that you literally struggle to put down.

I am currently reading the Rama series (by Arthur C. Clarke) I just finished the Ringworld series (by Larry Niven) I have already finished reading it, but I am considering reading The Andromada Strain (don't know how to spell his name but I think it's spelled like this: Michal Crichton.) because it is one of the best books I have ever read.

Reaper - June 13, 2006 06:24 AM (GMT)
is Dune any good? after i finish wheel of time and the eragon trilogy i'm gonna need some new fantasy to read, although i doubt i'll ever stop reading wheel of time i can't stop reading the damn things, i read the 4th book in 4 days and it's 1,001 pages long, kinda sad, but i love them :D , it's gonna kill me waiting for the final book though it's not scheduled for release until 2008 <_<

Calaith - June 13, 2006 09:30 AM (GMT)

By the 'Eragon' trillogy I take it you mean the 'Inheritence series'. I've read the first two, and really liked them despite the fact the first one was probably for slightly younger readers. I really want to read the third, but didn't even know it was out on shelves yet...whats it called?

At the moment I'm reading: "Looking for Alabrandi" as a school novel...its really boring! <_<

Cal

Inquisitor Liechtenstein - June 13, 2006 11:20 AM (GMT)
Yeah, Looking for Alabrandi is going to suck...

Farseer Concerta - June 13, 2006 12:24 PM (GMT)
dune is good but the 2,3,4&5 books are not as good but they are all confusing

yeah i did mean inheritence :D , the third isn't released yet, but on the website they keep calling it a trilogy so i'm just waiting for the third too (although i still have to read the second :) ) another thing i learnt from the eragon website is that they're making a movie for it, scheduled for release in december, hopefully they'll make it a trilogy like the book series, otherwise it may be cr*p

Farseer Concerta - June 14, 2006 06:31 AM (GMT)

Something you HAVE to do is read the 2nd one (Eldest). It really tops the first one, explains things way better and adds some much to the story. Its just also better written, and more enjoyable and 'epic'.

yeah it does look like it would explain things better, simply by looking at the size of it compared to Eragon, but i'll need to re-read Eragon upon finishing "the Wheel of Time" because if i went straight to Eldest i'll most likely get the story lines mixed between the two different series

Calaith - August 1, 2006 11:29 AM (GMT)

Anne Rice books are incredible!

Admittedly I'm only reading my first now, which is titled: 'Interview with the Vampire.'

It is writen rediculously well. The entire book is literally a Vampire talking about his life, and though you'd think this is boring its actually incredably interesting. The literature and descriptiveness and captivating nature of the book is awesome. I highly recomend it.

I'm also trying to get more of her books. 'The Vampire Lestat', and 'Queen of the Damned' are the two I'm currently looking for. Aparently every other Vampire Character in the book ' Interview with the Vampire' has their own book.

Farseer Concerta - August 1, 2006 12:29 PM (GMT)
Interview with a Vampire' is a movie as well

Calaith - August 2, 2006 08:15 AM (GMT)

I know. The movie was based on the book...currently trying to find it so I can watch it when I finish the book, though aparently its a bit different.

From what I've heard its got a really good cast though.

Inquisitor Liechtenstein - August 2, 2006 08:41 AM (GMT)
Thanks for reminding me of the existence of this thread Cal, becasue its reminded me to post in it...

Anyway, at the moment I'm reading HMS Ulysses by Alaster MacLean. This is one of those truely great war books. I'm only about a quarter of the way through, and it is utterly brilliant, there is mutany murder and I've been told that there is to be some really really good action ahead. At the moment it is building up (building up in a very eventful way that is), and I can't wait till the actual naval actions occur. I highly recommend this book to everybody that has a library somewhere nearby (or even far away, it doesn't overly matter).

Farseer Concerta - August 2, 2006 09:04 AM (GMT)
cal, well i can load vhs on to my computer and send it to you but it is not legal so....

lict,i think i will take a look @ it(to learn why go to my topic "woot')

Calaith - August 2, 2006 09:43 AM (GMT)

don't worry Concerta, I have a friend who has a copy of it, or at least knows a video store where I can rent it out. Besides I can't play Videos on my computer at the moment anyway.

Inquisitor Liechtenstein - August 6, 2006 12:39 AM (GMT)
I'm almost finished HMS Ulysses now (I'm a slow reader), and this book is just absolutely brilliant. It is probably the best book I've ever read. All of you would do yourselves an enourmous favour to read it. Just magnificant...

Reaper - August 6, 2006 03:51 AM (GMT)
i only ever read fantasy books (Other than the 4 Dan Brown books), so i'm rather limited, but in the space of my last post i have completed the Wheel of Time series and loved every book and i can't wait for the final book to be released, even if it is 2 years away :(

i also read "The Quickening" by Fiona McIntosh, it's a threee part series, that is really good, and i have managed to hunt down a copy of "New Spring", the first in a three part prequel to "The Wheel of Time", it's also really good, Robert Jordan is now firmly my favourite author :D

Hardrainfalling - August 6, 2006 06:15 AM (GMT)
sadly David Gemmel died suddenly aged 57 last week his last book will be out in uk next month if you like fantasy (or even if you dont) try his books

Inquisitor Liechtenstein - August 7, 2006 07:15 AM (GMT)
I just finished HMS Ulysses today at school, and it is officially the best book I have ever laid my hands on. It is just brilliant! It was believable, and yet extraordinary, full of action and just humanistic heroism. It was brilliantly written, and the ending fitted brilliantly with the rest of the story.

I believe that anybody who has a remote interest in reading should read this masterpiece, as it is just sheer brilliance!

Euleze - August 9, 2006 09:16 AM (GMT)
If anybody is into reading Matt Reilly books, or even if you don't I suggest you look at reading Hover Car Racer, it is a truly awesome. It's genre is unknown cause it crosses sci-fi with sports and action just awesome.

Sadly enough Robert Jordon passed away a few weeks ago. Rumour has it that he has left enough information behind so that his wife or another author can finish what he started.

I personally was not to impressed with the "Wheel of Time" series. i felt he was just to long winded in getting to the point. He seemed to spend to much time describing in intricate detail stuff that had little or no bearing on the story.

chani the flame - October 20, 2007 10:25 PM (GMT)
i think a good one is Jules Verne his books were/are always good....so is H.G. wells....

Calaith - October 21, 2007 12:27 AM (GMT)

Never taken it upon myself to try reading the Wheel of Time, it seems an impossible task. I'm quite unsurprised that the author died before finishing it, there were over eight massive books in the series weren't there, and it wasn't yet finished?

Reading back on the past posts in this thread over a year ago, I can happily inform Concerta that I have watched Interview with the Vampire (my girlfriend bought it for me for christmas last year), and it has become one of my favourit movies. A lot of people may think that Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise are douge bags, but they were unreal in that movie.

Currently I just finished reading the Great Gatsby for Literature. Its actually a really interesting novel, and I love the character Gatsby, he has an eccentric, almost Jack Sparrow, aura about him. The book can be pretty boring however, especially the first time through, but once you get into the imagery and symbolism behind the text (as we're doing in Literature) it becomes really interesting and clever, with a really good message behind it.

yes there are 10 wheel of time books in the series.
which, quite honestly could be condensed down to 5 books and still get the important information across to the reader.
