Title: Vintage Action in San Diego
Description: Looking for Vintage players
the19inchgecko - December 23, 2005 09:48 PM (GMT)
I was told that I would find a few vintage players that might be willing to help me playtest some decks. If that is the case please e mail me at the19inchgecko@hotmail.com Thanks for your time.

I live in SD and could possibly help. I normally play Fri nights after 9pm (ending 1-2 in the morning). Otherwise, it would have to be on special arrangments.
the19inchgecko - December 24, 2005 12:23 AM (GMT)
Actually that works great, where do you normally play? Thanks for the fast reply.
Stew - December 24, 2005 01:30 AM (GMT)
Poway, take 15 to Mercy Rd, head East, I'm at the top of the hill.

I will swing by, should I be looking for a shop or a house? Thanks RJ

A house. We got a few games going tonight. I'll run your appearance through the group and make sure everything is on the up-and-up for some future gaming =-)
Oh, by the way, not sure how old you are, but we range from age 25-31. We do't have a problem with younger players, but I'm always careful of "legal" responsibilities while hosting games to a teenage crowd. In other words, if you're under 18, it'd be best to have conversations with your folks, especially with how late we play.

It's ok, I am a 26 year old colleeg graduate. I am married and have been for 3 years. I am trying to grow a goatee thing and haven't shaved in a week. Thanks for giving me a chance. RJ

the19inchgecko - December 24, 2005 03:07 AM (GMT)
I am trying to grow a goatee but I have not shaved in a week so I kind of look homeless. Yeah that is kind of funny though.

I drove up and down mercy road and wentot every housing devlopment at every hill and knocked on about ten doors total then I went east onto Poway Scripps parkway and went to the end of that and knocked on some big houses door and this guy yelled at me. So if really are intrested in getting together to play let me know and if you can give em a street address that would be great and hopefully we can meet up next Friday night. Thanks RJ

It was more then funny, I thought it would be easy. I am not too familiar with that particular area so I thought there would be a hill with a single house on it. Guess I was mistaken. Peace!

ROFLMAO - I thought that first post was a joke. I thought I was clear in my reply that I would run it by the guys and prob have you over at the next game?!?!
Anyway, funniest thing I read tonight, sorry it was at your expense.
the19inchgecko - December 24, 2005 06:34 AM (GMT)
No it''s cool. I misunderstood. Sorry if I freaked out your neighbors. Now I am kind of glad I didn't find it then you would have really thought I was weird!

This has to be one of the best topics on the boards.
the19inchgecko - December 26, 2005 06:37 AM (GMT)
I am glad I could bring joy and comedy into your lives. I am really not that funny in real life. Well maybe a little, but I do hope to play with you guys or even possibly meet some of you in tourneys near southern california.

I wouldn't consider San Diego a magic hot spot. We barely have prereleases, and I had to try three shops (a total of about 50 miles) before finding boosters, let alone trying to find dual lands.

I wouldn't consider myself a stalker per se, but I am just excited about finding people that play magic. I went to one Friday Night Magic and it was constructed but they didn't use the banned and restricted lists and had unlimited proxies, that was the worst tourny I have ever been to. Everywhere else I go to buy singles only has type II stuff which is fine but they don't even have the playable type II stuff. Seriously if anyone else if from the San Diego area and wants to pick up a game let me know where and when. Thanks RJ

I hear ya man...id be frustrated too...hell, I am frustrated a lot of the time since its hard finding good T1 up here in northern california too...although we do seem to be better off than SoCal by a healthy margin (in fact at the last Dear Mr Fantazy tourney one of the NorCal players won the thing, heh, and all three who made the trip got top 8 too...woot!)
the19inchgecko - December 28, 2005 06:16 PM (GMT)
If I could meet and get know some people in my area I would be more then willing to go up there to play. I used to live in Nebraska while I went to school an I went to Chicago a lot to play and get magic cards. Peace and Congrats on your guys winning. I would be going to the Jan 14th event in Orange County but I got concert tickets for Social Distortion in Vegas that same day. Peace!
the19inchgecko - December 29, 2005 08:39 AM (GMT)
on themanadrain.com website I read about an event called "Gencon SoCal" They say it is not really popular. They also said it was near LAX, I would be intrested in going next year, but what is it? Is it really nothing to get stoked about? Or is it a big thing. Thanks RJ

Let me know if I can come over and play this Friday night. If you want to give me a call to see what I play or anything let that's cool. 760 200-7008 Peace thanks RJ
Stew - December 31, 2005 04:43 AM (GMT)
We didn't play tonight. Roommate is in Vegas, other friend soloed the indian casino. Last of the playgroup can't play me one on one.
We'll shoot for next week. I'll hold your ph#. This thread can die.
EDIT: Oh, so you know. The games are Vintage legal, unlimited proxies, and I am always using a new decklist for testing. GA will make a 1-2 game appearance, but I win too fast so I usually put it away =-) You're welcome to try and beat it :ph43r:
The unlimited proxies are so I can test new decks before buying crazy cards and so that the table can use full power, zaars, shops, drains, whatever. You'll need em.
Metagame Breakdown:
-Gifted Agony (see Primer)
-Mono-U Stax (Stax behind Drains basically)
-3c Prison (Chains, Arcane Lab, Scepter-thingy)
-Unusual, completely casual to the point where you're cards are useless against it goblins. (Really, there are so many dumb cards choices that you don't have the proper disruption to stop it)
-Affinity (weak, turn 5-6 kill, occasional 3)
-RW Burn/Control
-The Rock
-5c Control (really good when in the owner's hands)
-R/G Beats (can't convince him to go Tempo)
-Trix
-Animator
-Whatever I'm testing
No sealed, T2, block, but you can play 1.5 Legal if you wish (I test mine sometimes to get a feel for it).
In SD - Artifax has Monday Legacy Tournies, at least they did this summer. Game Empire is good for FNM and Saturday Legacy. Law plays 2hrs away in the Redlands. They have Vintage FNM every other week. And then there are the little hole in the wall places that do T2 FNM, mostly North County.
