Title: The Mana Drain
Description: Where has it gone?
Phantom Ogre - December 18, 2005 05:42 AM (GMT)
Alright, so TMD seems to have dissipated into cyberspace. The front page has become the new home of Realm Projects and the boards have been rendered inaccessible.
The strange thing is that everything was fine when I was on there earlier today.
Does anyone know where TMD went?

They are switching servers or something. There was a memo about it earlier today.

it wasn't sent. It was on a side bar on the index page. Not very noticable though.

1. Go to windows/system32/drives/etc/hosts
2. Open the hosts file with Notepad. It should look like this:
Quote # Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# 207.36.231.178 themanadrain.com # 207.36.231.178 www.themanadrain.com
3. Delete the last two lines (meaning any mention of TMD in there. Meaning the stuff I put down in bold in the above quote).
4. Save the file (do NOT use 'save as...' since this will cause problems with file extensions),
5. Reboot, and presto! |

Host files aren't even deleted. If the problem with TMD is an incorrect HOST file, delete the file and the problem is gone. Windows will regen a new HOST file.
EDIT: Don't forget to reboot though.

Er, the reason you are setting the IP's in the host file is so that you can access www.themanadrain.com without using the IP until the IP switch propogates around the internet.
It takes 24 - 72 hours for all DNS servers around the world to synch up, this is just the way YOU will be able to resolve the name before your ISP gets off its ass and does its thing.
If you are running win2k and later, you can probably get by without rebooting. Though it varies on different systems (and I still don't know why).

did you guys think you were helping in some way? :wtf:

I'm a bit late...but...
Doing what pip says works. If your using Microsoft's Internet Explorer, the page will also load faster than it normaly would. However, if you don't understand how to do it, I wouldn't suggest fiddling with it. Thing is if TMD ever switches IP for back-up reasons, security, non-active firewall etc. you'll have to manually change it again and you might not know how. So then your forever doomed never able to find TMD again.
PS. If your using Microsoft's I.E., stop. Go download fire Fox or something similar. I.E. is ...
