Title: Spice Isn't Eating
MyBabyBunnies - October 16, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
Well Spice gave me quite the scare and what the week to do it. I got home last last night after being at school for over 12 hours to be informed that Spice isn't eating. So I put him out in the run and sure enough, he just went and stretched out in the run, not interest in running or investigating. He's not the type of rabbit that lays stretched out much so when he continually did it after I picked him up, I knew he wasn't right.
He won't eat any treats, not even his favorites that he normally devours. So last night I gave him some simethicone but this morning he was still acting off. He had perked up but was still not interested in food and they still had pellets in their bowl. I can't tell how much he ate and how much Reese ate though. Last night Spice was still pooping, but this morning it was impossible to tell whose was whose. I also can't tell if he was drinking. I syringed him some pumpkin and more simethicone to try because he had perked up a little since last night.
Unfortunately, this is the worst week he could have gotten sick. I leave my house before 7 am and get home after 9 pm most days. I can't miss class because I have 3 interviews this week as well as 5 midterms in 4 days. I had to leave him this morning after trying to give him pumpkin because I had a 9:15 interview and I won't be home until 9 tonight. This is really stressing me out, I have no clue what to do. I can't get him to a vet if I can't be home to do it. I'm just really worried about my boy, and sending him with someone else just wont yield any results. My parents don't know enough to answer the questions or be able to discuss possibilities or turn down potentially bad advice. :( I'm still hoping it's just gas...

Oh NO! Is there anyone you know who could come check on him during the day?
Poor little guy! You really need to separate he and Reese to monitor his poos!
How is your weather? could it be something from that?
Get better Spice!

Since you aren't able to be home to monitor Spice's eating and pooping habits, it's best to seperate him from Reese right now.
Some things to try to enhance his appetite--Parsley, Apples, Bannanas, and Nutri-Cal.
A few months ago, I had a rabbit go off feed and had no idea why. I happened to be on the phone with a good friend when I discovered this problem. He told me to go into the house and find any kind of cracker to give the rabbit. At the time I only had wheat thins that I gave the rabbit. This rabbit looked to be on it's death bed and magically those crackers did SOMETHING for him as he's out in the barn 2 months later and eating normal. It seems to be one of those unexplainable occurances.
Over the past few months, I've had the chance to learn 'keys' from Doc Reed, a very respected member of the rabbit community that is no longer with us. His thoughts were if the rabbit was off feed, feed it anything it will eat! They need SOMETHING in their bodies even if it's not the pellets.
Now as to what's causing Spice to not eat, that's something you can only tell with 'seeing' him.
Best of luck!

Spice passed away in my arms on the way to the emergency vet clinic tonight. I left when my review session was supposed to start and he just went drastically downhill.
RIP Spicers. :sadbye:
I feel sick right now.
