Title: The Orphaned Kitten

Dwarf_Angel04 - October 1, 2007 04:00 PM (GMT)
This past Thursday my mother recieved a phone call from her sister asking if we want to try save a kitten. The kitten was born on Wednesday and by Thursday evening it's 3 litter mates had died. The mother cat was caught trying to kill the kitten so my uncle took it away from the mother. That's when we got the call to come save it. I gave direct instructions that the kitten had to be healthy when it came to me and that I was to keep the kitten after all the hours spent into caring for it.

The kitten is now 5 days old and is thriving!

 Awwww! It reminds me when we had Cwover Bunny an we had to feed her through a bottle. She was stubborn though

Delphinum - October 2, 2007 11:50 PM (GMT)
Aww it's so cute! Have you named it yet?

Dwarf_Angel04 - October 3, 2007 02:38 AM (GMT)
This kitten is pretty amazing!

Last night we changed it over to a cat carrier instead of a rabbit nestbox due to it's activity. I believe the kitten can feel the nestbox warmer much better in the cat carrier as it no longer wants to be covered up.

At this time we aren't for sure what the gender of the kitten so it doesn't have a name yet. I also keep telling myself that it's not allowed to have a name until it's eyes open.

However, when it comes to naming it's got to be a name we'd give a human. Right now we have 2 adult inside cats (6 1/2 yrs old and the other is just about to turn 6) who are named Holly and Jewel. At this point I like the name Laci if it's a little girl. ;)

We shall see!

I'll be sure to keep y'all updated and keep at least some activity on the board. :D

HappyBunny - October 4, 2007 12:20 AM (GMT)
If it is a girl like the names- Christy, Lilly, Sammy, or Miracle

If a boy- Scotty, Kindle, Brutus, or Popeye

Good Luck!

Look at that sweet little baby! I am so jealous of you! I love baby kitties!

Need photos when you get the little eyes open!

The kitten had it's first vet appointment yesterday. Clear bill of health with healthy lungs and a strong heart beat. We were feeding a powder formula from Wal-Mart but the vet wanted us to change to a formula more like the mother's milk. So we did and it laps that stuff up like it's going out of style!

The kitten is strong as ever and developing more motor skills everyday! Last night I was cuddling with it and it didn't nothing but purr up a storm. It's also starting to move it's tail around. Cute little thing!

AW! It sounds like the kitten is doing great! :)

This kitten is going to be so human attached it will be your shadow!

What a sweetie! I'm glad he's doing so well. Did the vet say if it's a boy or girl?

Dwarf_Angel04 - October 8, 2007 04:32 AM (GMT)
Not sure of the gender quite yet. It's continuing to develop and is now up to 5 1/2 ounces I believe. :)

We almost have some eyes open! ;)

Dwarf_Angel04 - October 13, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
I'll post some photos as soon as I have some. Right now, we aren't taking any pictures of the kitten due to the eyes being freshly open and still cloudy.

The kitten is catching the heart of everyone that it meets! Mom and Dad are going to CERT training meetings and have to take the kitten with them due to nobody being home to feed it. The instructor wakes it up just to hold it and intrupts her own class to do so. :)

The kitten is also getting to the age in which we get it out just to cuddle with it. Last night Dad had it laying on his chest for a good hour with the eldest cat in the house on his lap. It was very picture perfect and of course a picture was taking with the disposable camera. :)

As of right now if it's a girl.... Daisy

Bo B Bunny - October 13, 2007 04:12 PM (GMT)
Awww I can't wait to see more pics! I hope it's a girl I love the name Daisy!

It sure doesn't look to be lacking in the food area! What a little chubby baby!

It's so cute! Looks like it really loves everyone! The kitty bag is like a bit big huh?

:P

Dwarf_Angel04 - October 21, 2007 07:28 PM (GMT)
Yes, EVERYONE loves the kitten. Last night the parents had to take her to a bondfire with them. She had kids (10 and 6) discussing 'who' got to hold her! People were wanting to take her home with them. I think they'd change their mind after one day of care!

I do have pictures of the kitten taken today but have to get them up on the computer yet. As for now, college work rules... anyone wanna do ICD-9 medical Coding for me? Right now I'm learning about the V Codes.

As you may have noticed... the kitten is a SHE. :) Once I get some college work done, I plan on looking online for some name ideas. It's just hard naming animals and especially when you have one under these circumstances!

Oh yeah, the cat carrier is almost getting too small! She doesn't sleep as often and wants to be MOVING! We are beyond the "I want to cuddle" stage.. for now. ;)

We are working on weaning Ember!

I might have a suprise come this evening. :D

Bo B Bunny - November 6, 2007 10:39 PM (GMT)
Awww what a cute baby! I'm so glad he's done well.

Suprise???

Dwarf_Angel04 - November 6, 2007 11:55 PM (GMT)
We and a potential 3 week old kitten to foster. However, we decided it wouldn't be best for Ember's heath and our sanity!

Ember is one spoiled little girl, that's for sure!

Bo B Bunny - November 7, 2007 12:17 AM (GMT)
Why did I think it was a he?
She's adorable!

HappyBunny - November 7, 2007 01:26 AM (GMT)
OMG! That kitten is so adorable! You better watch out.... :ph43r:

Dwarf_Angel04 - November 7, 2007 01:47 AM (GMT)
There's no possible way Ember will be up for grabs. She's got someone around her almost 24/7! LOL!

One adorable kitten and it's hard to get her out to play now. She won't stay in one room, you will sit and talk to her and wham she's a flash running through the house. :)

Look at that beautiful kitten! She's gotten so big! it's hard to believe!

I bet she's a big love-bug isn't she?

Merry Christmas!

Dwarf_Angel04 - December 17, 2007 05:40 PM (GMT)
Yup, she's gotton big and is begging to get out of her cage right now.

She's still way smaller then what she's supposed to be weighing in at as at 11 weeks she's only around the 2 pound mark. Tatiana (bro's gf) has 4 month old kittens and wow are they double Ember's size!

But the best presents are small. :)

Ember is definately going to be a heart cat! Orphan kittens are hard to raise that's for sure especially when she only had one dose of mother's milk. However, we are lucky she got that first dose. :)

Have a great day!
