Title: I need my rabbit gurus!

Bo B Bunny - November 6, 2006 12:56 PM (GMT)
Ok, somewhere on here (I have searched and can't find it) one of you knowledgeable bunny peoples told me to use Revolution or Ivermectin to worm/demite the boys. I've not used anything yet. I want to make sure what I need to get and how much to give.

Here's where I need some help!

Clover has a bald spot on his head between his ears and it's been there a while (a month or more?). I did pluck the fur but it was really loose.

Bo has some bald spots around his jaws but again I was grooming and plucking the hair there (and he loved it and it was loose) it's been about a week? and there's not much regrowth starting.

Both boys had bald spots on their bodies where I groomed and they were molting. Both have had that hair grow back or they are still in the process, but Bo's was really bad. I mean big nakie patches - again I helped him shed so he wouldn't have all that hair to digest.

In one or two spots Bo had a flake or two. He had areas where I'd get all the "dead" hair and there would be a new spot starting up amidst that hairloss. He is getting all of it back quickly.

Should I be worried about mites? ringworm?

Also, I've had some places come up on my neck and back. They look like bites maybe. I wondered if that was related. That's also a concern.

Thanks Ang. I think I'm gonna get the dog or cat ivermectin (I also think it might have been Kismet who told us that was what she used or maybe..... I dunno LOL)

Bo's hair is now coming in on his face. It's so funny to see his little bald spots change color when the new hair forms. His coat is GORGEOUS!

Clover hasn't been cooperating with me so I haven't checked his head.

It could be mites, especially since you said they have what looks like bites (kinda like scratches?) on their back and neck....pretty normal spots for fur mites.

Don't use cat/dog ivermectin, I don't know if it would have any bad effects but I know you're generally not supposed to use oral cat/dog stuff for rabbits because they put meat schtuff in it sometimes...best to stick to cattle/horse stuff since they have a similar diet.

I use Equimectin (I think that's how you spell it) It's $8 a tube and the tube last for EVER, even with a lot of rabbits. Never had a rabbit go off feed or anything on it...just give them a pea sized amount, maybe a tiny bit less for Clover since he's smaller....lol a small pea size

Ohh I apoligize, I saw the title of the thread and just scanned over it last night! I normally just look at the threads that I'm following. In the future, send a PM to say "Hey look at this thread!!" LOL!

Many people I know use:
Piperazine- 2 drops per pound, orally, about every 6 months.
Ivermectin horse wormer paste- for fur mites, a green pea size amount given orally.
Corid or sulfaquinoxaline for coccidia about every 6 months--the amount recommended for chickens.

Now for Piperazine it comes in different forumlas:
Piperzine adepate 500mg/kb ----1x for 2 days
piperzine citrate 200mg/kg ---- 1x , repeat in 14 days
Piperzine Pamoate 5-10 mg/ kg ---- 1x repeat in 14 days

Keep in mind, there are NO de-wormers that kill all stages of pinworm which is the most common parasite in rabbits. If rabbits are diagnosed with pinworms, they need to be put on a regular treatment program.

Thanks for mentioning this! I noticed last night a few rabbits are starting to feel boney so gonna get them on a coccidia treatment before changing feeds since the rest of the barn is fine.

THANKS SO MUCH!!!!

I'm going to TSC in a bit and I'll get a tube of ivermectin. The good thing is, I can give both bunnies a pea sized bite and feed the rest to one of my horses or one of my niece's ponies. :)

Bo is getting along great but then this morning I noticed a red place in a bald spot that had like flakey looking skin on it. I put antibiotics on one similar last week and it healed.

Still, I'll do the ivermectin :)

Bo's gonna be madddddddddddddddd :Cinny:
