Title: What is this?
Cinnabun - October 25, 2006 08:28 PM (GMT)
I was Grooming Cinnamen today, with my moms help.. (Bunny Taco haha) and my my was brushing her back side on the left. and she found this.. Any clue to what it might be?
The flies havent been out for a couple of weeks because of how cold it's been.

Poor Cinn. Looks like a big owie! None of mine has ever had an abscess, just bites that healed with a touch of Neosporin (not the Plus kind) or better yet, a thin layer of Silvadene. She'll probably need a vet visit, from what I gather, there's a lot of things it could be.
Is that a shot of her back or her underside?
How close to her tail is it?
Is the white stuff in the center hair or could it be pus?
I can ask some of the more medically inclined associates what they think. Mind if I post the pic a few other places?

Aww poor Cinn!!!
PIPP why shouldn't we use the neosporin plus? Bo has a sore hock and I wanted to use that ------ my poor boy.

My mom put some Neo on it. I'm thinking of bringing her in.
Is onher Back side by her tail. Right behind her Hind foot..
Go ahead and Post the picture. As much advice i can get i would LOVE.
I started to cry when i first saw it. because Today is Missey's 2 years anni. and I
just started to freak because i'm scared. I want her to be okay. I shouldn't have spent all that money on Taya and saved it just in case! :(
there was some Hair i couldn't pull back.

the 'Plus' in Neosporin Plus can upset their digestive tracts if they lick even small amounts off. For sore hocks, I'd go for the plain stuff or Silvadene. You should still use it sparingly and try and keep him from licking it for about 10 minutes after you apply it.
I've also heard that people are getting excellent results using Zymox, but that's a prescription thing in most States.

Cinn, can you get a flashlight and hold it really close to the wound and see if there's any movement in there? Between the bright light and the bit of heat, any larvae may head for the surface, or at least start moving. You really have to rule out or treat flystrike quickly. I think it takes a couple of weeks for the little buggers to appear, so it's still possible.
Don't take my word on this, but I think if the whole thing is all the same colour, and the center isn't clear, white or otherwise different, it's less likely to be flystrike or an abscess.

I'll try it tomorrow. I want to let her mellow out. for a bit.
I really hope she's going to be okay

It looks pretty big, Cinn. Like it continues under the fur there. Could she have mites or ringworm?
Thanks PIPP - I won't use it on him anymore. Silvadene - are you talking SulfaSilvadene that's white cream used for burns mostly?

Sulfa Silvadene, yup. It's more of a preventative measure re: infections, so if the sores aren't too bad, it will help the irritation and keep it from getting infected.
Cinn's problem doesn't really look like ringworm or mites from the picture. It's more like flystrike, a scrape mark or bite, an abscess, a lesion or something. It could be serious. (I'd be more worried about flystrike than stress).

Ooo I have that! Lexi burned her hand on a curling iron one time and the doc gave us that.
I also found our antibiotic ointment without pain relief. Bo fights me over any of it. He's really mad at me anyhow where I've been brushing him daily. He's molting so heavy I need to!
He did lay down on my arm and fall asleep while I did his neck yesterday. He's never let me get under his chin and stuff and he stretched out for me to pluck and comb there! It was so cute!
