I realize it's been awhile since I update people on Peanut's condition, and I figured I'd include Rex's latest vet visit as well.
First, Peanut. The tilt isn't going away this time, and in fact, she's managing life as though her head were on perfectly straight. Looking at her straight on, her tilt is in the 10-11 o'clock position. Not dramatic, but enough to have her little lop ear standing upright 24/7. Peanut, the half lop, my crooked bunny.
But she's standing, eating on her own at every meal, grooming herself, scratching her ears, and generally acting...normal. I wasn't sure if that would ever happen. She walks, sometimes in circles, rather than hop, but she rarely loses her balance and hardly ever rolls. I would even venture to say that she hasn't done this well since she first fell sick back in June, even with that brief time of recovery in July.
I say that, and yet I'm cautiously optimistic, because she did recover before and then became dramatically worse in a matter of days. I'm hoping, praying, and holding my breath. Her appetite is great, and she's been eating a lot of the high-fat/protein pellets. In the past three weeks, she’s re-gained over ½ pound. She loves noserubs and ear rubs, she tooth purrs (again, something she hasn't done since June) and when she's completely happy and relaxed, she kicks her legs out behind her and sleeps like the dead.
As for Rex, his toe has been healing well, but keep your fingers crossed for us this week: the vet noticed some granulated tissue around the affected toe. It may not mean anything, but it may mean that the abscess will come back. Dr. G gave Rex his third (and final) PennG shot and said that if the abscess returns within a week or so, Rex will need to go in for surgery to have the abscess and the surrounding tissue completely removed. It's not as though Rex has a lot of tissue on his toes to begin with, so that could affect wound healing. If the abscess comes back, pre-surgery X-rays will tell us whether or not it's invaded the bone. If it has, the whole toe will be removed. This is, of course, not what I wanted to hear but not entirely unexpected. Prayers, thoughts, and good vibes are definitely appreciated!
I'm so happy to hear that Peanut is doing as well as she is. I was so worried about her but now I think she's gonna do fine considering her tilt. Nobody's perfect! ;)
I'll continue to pray for her and Rex. I hope his little toe is ok and he goes along normal from here.
Kisses from me, Bo and Clover :)
I'm so happy to hear Peanut and Rex are doing well!
