Title: I think Nepo's sick :(
ILoveNepo - September 9, 2006 11:00 PM (GMT)
Hey guys! :) Well yeah, Nepo hasn't really been eating in the past week (just some veggies, oats, and grass) and at first he had really wet poops (could this be diarrhea?) and now he has only a few dry ones...I don't know what to do :( Should I take him to a vet?
Bo B Bunny - September 9, 2006 11:24 PM (GMT)
Yes, get him to the vet. He is showing signs of GI Stasis. Do you have pumpkin from a can? Get him to eat some.
ILoveNepo - September 10, 2006 12:20 AM (GMT)
I'll try to get pumpkin and try to get him to the vet, thanks :)
Cinnabun - September 10, 2006 04:00 AM (GMT)
OH NO! Nepo feel better soon!
ILoveNepo - September 10, 2006 12:58 PM (GMT)
Thanks Cinn :) , he has a little more poops now, but we're still going to try to get him to a vet
Bo B Bunny - September 10, 2006 02:11 PM (GMT)
Try more pumpkin if you can. He's got to get that tummy working better.
Delphinum - September 10, 2006 05:25 PM (GMT)
:upset: I hope he's okay! I love Nepo! :(
ILoveNepo - September 10, 2006 09:23 PM (GMT)
Thanks Delph....I forgot to get the pumpkin yesterday (maybe we'll get it later), but I got sage and basil (I read that giving him herbs would be good, maybe because of the enzymes?) and he really likes them..and he's also eating celery leaves and grass...oh and I also got some pedyalite, should I give it to him? He's drinking some water...
One more thing..Nepo has dirty feet from all the squished poops? Should I clean them? He HATES being washed, so I really want to avoid stressing him at this time...
Thanks for all the help guys :)
Bo B Bunny - September 10, 2006 11:02 PM (GMT)
Sometimes when they have stasis they'll get the squishies, sometimes it can be from something that made them get a bit sick - does he get greens anytime?
If he's eating and drinking, he sounds better. Bo has not been eating as much - I think he is bored with his food.
ILoveNepo - September 11, 2006 12:42 AM (GMT)
Yeah he gets greens (at least one a day), but we're not too strict on that, but now that he's sick he gets a little portion like every 4 hours lol I just gave him some celery and he ate it with lots of appetite :) And when I offer hay he eats it but only when I give it to him lol. Even though he seems to be getting better, I still want to take him to a vet, but my mom says well see...
Lol poor Bo :P Does he like basil? Nepo loves it!

There's a fine balance between enough greens and too much greens. Pebbles will have mushy poos when she gets too much greens. Same thing with pumpkin. Too much pumpkin will result with a mushy dirty bottom. Too many treats will give small dry poos.
Hay should be available at all times. Oats will help firm up the mushy poos.

Sounds like he might have fixed it on his own?
Most often it's too many carbs/starches/sugars (and I think too much protein), that causes poopy butt, taking away the pellets for awhile (and then cutting down on them) usually fixes it.
Too many oats can send a bunny into stasis (Pipp!), but just a (very) few oats can help with fiber and diarrhea. Breads and sugar can send a bunny into stasis.
Some bunnies do better with less veggies, some bunnies do better with more veggies. Pumpkin is usually the best overall sick bunny helper (along with baby gas meds), but too much can mean too many carbs, and like with the veggies, some bunnies don't do well with it.
All bunnies do better with more hay, but not necessarily alfalfa.
It's all so complicated!
My gang just gets a tiny bit of daily fruit, no breads, no craisins. Pipp gets about five to 10 little oat flakes. The hay eaters are healthy, the hold-out (Pipp!) is not.
If a bunny stops eating specific things, worth keeping an eye on dental issues. Some bunnies with tooth problems will stop eating hay, some will stop eating pellets, some will stop eating veggies.
See? Again, nothing's consistent!
Why bunny slaves go gray!
Hope Nepo's okay.

Nepo's doing much better :) . This morning I gave him a little piece of papaya (I don't really want to give him a lot of sugar...) and he ate it...and an hour ago he was out running and eating grass so he seems much better, I'm also starting to see poops that look normal even tho they're little. And yea taking away the pellets did seem to help with the poopy butt lol :)
Cinnabun - September 11, 2006 10:01 PM (GMT)
I'm glad Little Nepo is doing MUCH better! I often worry about that with Cinn being that she's outside, she's not really montiored. but she gets along. lol
But i'm so glad Nepo is doing better!
ILoveNepo - September 11, 2006 10:08 PM (GMT)
Lol thanks..I'm really glad too :D I couldn't sleep the day I found out he had that cuz I was really worried cuz I read a bunch of stuff online and they kept saying that bunnies usually died and I started crying :(
Delphinum - September 12, 2006 09:37 AM (GMT)
Aww sweetie! I'm glad he's a bit better! Any pictures? *hint hint* ;)

Paying attention and knowing what is going on with their poos is key to keeping them healthy - I truly believe that.
Bo had soft poos the other day, then tiny ones yesterday, so I loaded him up with hay cause he's had a lot of greens and treats I found out. <_< Now he's fine. He hadn't been eating with much enthusiasm and I think it was the treats. Now, they aren't going to be over his cage - I'll have them where I know and can get them if he "needs" one.
Give Nepo a big kiss and ear rubs from me. I'm so happy he's doing better. You're a good mommy :)

Lol :P . I did get the pumpkin yesterday but Nepo didn't seem to like it. But I got oxbow hay and he likes that much more than the kaytee, so he's eating more hay than before :)

Lol I'll try :P
He has way more appetite than before and I see normal poops now :)

Bo B Bunny - September 13, 2006 11:18 PM (GMT)
Awwww my Nepo-PooPoo-Boy!!!!! I'm glad he likes Oxbow! Pig, Clover and Bo love it and really hardly touch Kaytee hay.
Bo looked at me like I was a nutjob when I gave him pumpkin one time. :P
ILoveNepo - September 17, 2006 10:58 PM (GMT)
Lol I thought Bo liked pumpkin...Isn't papaya similar to pumpkin tho? They're really good enzymes? Nepo does like papaya :) Anyways Nepo's been weird...The last day I posted on this thread until now he was doing really good and he even ate some pellets, but today he didn't really want celery or parsley which is what he usually ate, but who knows maybe he's tired of them? But he does have poops so I dont think its GI.... but he's grinding his teeth loudly and I checked him and I didn't see that he was hurt or anything, so maybe it's something internal? :???:
Bo B Bunny - September 18, 2006 12:27 AM (GMT)
Bo loves papaya, but hates pumpkin.
If he's grinding, he's in pain. It could be anything - but I think I'd get him to the vet asap.
Lanna - September 18, 2006 03:49 AM (GMT)
I have to agree with Bo. Grinding teeth is usually indicative of pain. I would get him to the vet ASAP. Hope Nepo's ok. Sending prayers his way.
Cinnabun - September 18, 2006 05:12 AM (GMT)
I hope Nepo gets better soon! :( I'll be thinking of him!
ILoveNepo - September 18, 2006 10:20 PM (GMT)
My mom doesn't want to take him to the vet, cuz there's no money :( The good news is he isnt't grinding his teeth today, but I think the problem is with his teeth cuz he opens his mouth in a weird way..I don't know...but he's doing good besides that...Btw he let me trance him yesterday, he never liked that but he let me do it twice for like a minute lol :)
Bo B Bunny - September 19, 2006 02:21 AM (GMT)
Sounds like his teeth need filed by the vet. He could also have an abcess in his jaw or something. I hope he gets all better.
ILoveNepo - September 19, 2006 07:33 PM (GMT)
Is an abcess like a bump? Well I don't think there's anything wrong with his front teeth cuz I checked them and they align properly and I checked his jaws for bumps and I didn't feel any (it was all even)...and he's chewing on wood, so I imagine that if he had teeth problems he wouldn't be doing that....
Bo B Bunny - September 20, 2006 01:24 AM (GMT)
Yeah, abcesses are like a pocket of infection. His back teeth could be the problem. It takes a vet to check those.
Check his feet. Are his nails ok? how about his ears?
ILoveNepo - September 21, 2006 10:04 PM (GMT)
Yea his ears are good, and he has a little fur missing near his nails but its not red....
