Title: New SOP
Description: Accepted AFL Colors?

Lanna - March 7, 2006 03:29 AM (GMT)
I've been kinda lazy about getting the new SOP. Can anyone tell me what colors are accepted in AFLs?

Kismet - March 7, 2006 03:58 AM (GMT)
Ahhh I have no idea where my new SOP went, it's buried in my room somewhere and since my Mom "helped clean" I can't find anything :innocent: I had an organized mess there! Blue tort is the only new one since the last SOP if you have your old SOP still.

Other than that, there is chestnut, orange, fawn, opal, lynx, chinchilla, squirrel, black, blue, chocolate, lilac, black tort, blue tort, REW, BEW, pointed white, sable point, siamese sable, and smoke pearl. I think thats all of them, I'll look for my standard tonight though if you don't have your old one.

Thanks Lauren. I have my old one but I wondered if there were any new colors accepted.

Is anyone working on new colors in AFLs? Do you know. I'm just curious. Seems like it should be relatively easy to do since Hollands are so close in standard. Doesnt seem like there are a lot of colors in AFLs....at least not like it is in some of the other breeds.

P.S. Whit HATES when I clean her room.

I agree, it's a shame there aren't more colors with all the "color" Holland breeders out there...it wouldn't be hard at all, you could get decent rabbits in alot of colors in just a couple generations.

Someone is working on black otters but umm...it's not going so well. :ph43r: PM me if you want more info on that lol. I don't want to start anything here since this is a public forum and all. Supposedly someone is working on black gold tipped steels too but they didn't show this year and I haven't heard anything about it other than they were supposed to be at Nationals. There has been a lot of talk about the otters though, people really like them.

Other than that, I don't know of any other colors under development. I WISH someone would work on chocolate agoutis - it wouldn't be hard with all the "specialty" breeders working with chocolates and with a lot of the top Fuzzy breeders having a strong agouti line. It would help with the development of the chocolates, lilacs and lynx sooo much! No one wants to do them because the chances of getting chocolate agoutis are so high. :( And they're so pretty too. I can't believe creams aren't accepted either because of how many orange Fuzzies there are - they're popping up all over!

If no one is working on chocolate agoutis and creams by the time I'm out of school and settled in that's definitely going to be my project!

It's very exciting to me that orange, fawn and lynx are accepted Fuzzy Lop colors. Fawn and lynx are my 2 favorite colors and it's so sad that they aren't accepted in Woolies. Orange is cute too, but not one of my favorite-favorites, and that just passed it's 1st presentation. A black otter Fuzzy Lop would be soooooooo cute! It's weird that there's no tan pattern Fuzzies.

Lisa....fawn is my favorite color too. I would probably love lynx if I'd ever seen it but Ive never see the color on any rabbit.

Lauren...Creams were the reason I asked the question in the first place. I guess you'd have to be really careful about not breeding dilutes into your orange/fawn since they arent accepted. The thing is...the orange buck I was going to get carries dilute...and I was going to get a blue doe but that's not going to be a very good combination. UNLESS, I made creams a project...but I wouldnt even know where to start.

What I find amazing is just what you said...there are tons of colored holland breeders out there now...and lots of those work with both AFLs and HLs because the fuzzy gene pops up in their litters.

Otter would be sooo cute!!

I may be asking a stupid question... Actually I know I am but does AFL mean American Fuzzy Lop? I love cream colored!! It is so pretty but my favorite color ever is the orange still (unless there is a purple bunny I dont know about?)

jojo - March 7, 2006 07:20 PM (GMT)
lilac is as close to purple as you'll get :D I'ts such a pretty color too.

Yepp Bunny Lover...AFL is American Fuzzy Lop. Not a stupid Question at all.

Does anyone know if Orange and Fawn genetics are the same in AFL? I know in Hollands they're the same. (A_B_C_D_ee)

I havent really seen a lilac... Thanks Lanna. Purple and Orange Bunnies all over!! YAY!!

Lana here is a link that at the bottom it shows a picture of a lynx and a picture of a cream next to eachother to compare. And Bunnylover in the middle of the page shows a picture of a Lilac chin.

Yep! Same genotype. I wouldn't worry too much about creams...they end up popping up wether you plan on them or not (Bambi and Harbi are both cream and they were out of a chestnut with one (I think) dilute on the pedigree, and an orange with just orange, fawn and black on the pedigree but obviously there was a cream there somewhere!) Most people just show them anyway since they aren't shown in colors groups, most of the judges just assume they are a lynx since the wool dilutes the color and the difference isn't as obvious between cream and lynx.

That's what I was afraid of Lauren. I wont worry about it then...even if they get DQ'd I can still get opinions.

With typical breeders luck...I'll get creams in every fuzzy lop litter from here on out since Ive wanted them in my holland litters and can never get them. <_<
