Title: Cold Season
MyBabyBunnies - February 14, 2006 03:26 AM (GMT)
Ok so normally I don't rant but I'm just in a horrible mood right now from lack of sleep. My parents got a bad cold last week and I avouded them (I literally did not come out of my room while they were home) so I would not get sick, well on Friday my sister brought my nephew over so I was around my parents for a couple hours playing with him.
The next morning I woke up with a horrible chest cold. I couldn't breathe, my throat hurt, and just felt bad overall. Well I took Vitamin C and the cold started rapidly progressing. Sunday I wake up and I can feel the cold has moved out of my chest and is now stuck in the middle. It's not a head cold, but my head was pounding from it and my throat still hurt bad.
It slowly progressed more today with constant coughing and runny nose. I couldn't even go to school today it was so bad when I woke up, and it's a good thing, I spent all day drinking hot fluids to soothe my sore throat and I try to keep my cough to a minimal because it's on of those coughs that makes you feel like you're going to get sick if you don't stop right away.
I'm so sick of tea, coffee, and hot chocolate right now that I don't even want to think about it but I wont drink anything cold because it hurts. To make matters worse, when I try to sleep I get really hot all the sudden but then I will suddenly feel very cold but I'm sweating. So I'm constantly wakin gup at nioght to kick off my covers and pull them back on. I just can't win.
So needless to say I'm grumpy and hoping my parents don't make me go to school tomorrow. There's nothing worse than sitting through school with a bad cold.

If you are hot and cold with sweating it sounds like you have a fever and this could be something more than 'just' a cold. Have you taken your temperature? You might have an upper respiratory infection....or strep throat, if you have such a sore throat. You should also gargle with salt water (1/2 tsp to 6 oz of warm water) to help relieve the throat irritation. Drinking warm chicken or beef broth might help too....
You should definitely not be going to school if you feel this bad....you'll just be spreading the germs around.

It is just a cold, I have no fever, we checked. I've never been a soup person so I can't bring myself to drink broth without making myself sick, I'm not sure why, just a quirk. There shouldn't be a problem, my parents know I don't miss school intentionally (I missed 2 classes of English last semester and that was it) so I'll stay home until I feel comfortable going back. The way this is progressing, that could be Wednesday, LOL. Plus, I'm not doing much good running out of class to go get a drink of water ever 5 minutes anyways, and who can concentrate with a sore throat?
It's just a nasty cold that's going around. I hope I get over this soon, I can't even talk right now and I'm grouchy. At least Spicers is being a doll and cheering me up!

Good advice Doctor.
Flu season is at a high right now. I missed getting a flu shot this year. :(
I know several people have it. Co-workers, my brother-inlaw, and now my son.
I am taking Cold-FX right now so I don't get sick.

I know this will sound gross but if you gargle vinegar it will help to kill the germs in you throat and make it feel better faster. :) also hot apple cidar is a hot drink but different from what you have been drinking :P

So I got this 'cold' on Saturday and it's still just as bad today so I went to the doctor. I have strep throat. It means I wont be going to school the rest of the week (which is actually a disappointment because I know how much I'm missing as far as work goes). But at least I can get better now with medicine.

you get to stay home if you have strep?! lucky.. no matter what you hhave here you HAVE to go to school, unless you are throwing up, or are on your death bed.
MyBabyBunnies - February 16, 2006 12:57 AM (GMT)
It's up to our parents. But strep throat is very contagious and who wants 1300 kids getting strep throat? Considering I can't talk, can barely last 5 minutes without sucking on something or having a drink, and am living on an hour of sleep at the most, I think it's best I stay home.

Sorry you're sick! Strep is no fun at all. :(
I've been sick for a couple weeks now too, and it's getting worse (I finally stayed home today) Mono is going around and a lot of kids are coming to school even though they have been diagnosed (???) I thought you had to stay out of school for a couple weeks if you had it, at least you did in MI...maybe it's different here? I think I've got it though because I am SO tired (I fell asleep in six out of eight hours yesterday, and that includes lunch and band! I'm notorious for "nodding off" in class during boring lectures, but never the all-out, head-on-desk, pretty-much-passed-out asleep ) I go home and fall asleep after a few hours if I'm not doing something interactive...I have a fever, headache and chills that come and go and I have no appetite at all. :( I HATE the doctors though! And if I tell my Mom I think I have mono she'll freak out and drill me with questions about how I got it, lol!
Don't worry, I'll tell her if it doesn't get better - I just prefer to avoid the doctors at all costs!
Get well soon MBB! Eat lots of soup and popsicles. :P

Popsicles.....brrr.
A Cold front is hitting us tonight. Temperatures are dropping to -24* C. Finally winter has arrived, but still no snow.
Get better MBB. There's a rabbit show this weekend.

I hate doctors too but when my throat is this sore and I'm losing sleep because of it, I'd rather get medicine and get better sooner. I wouldn't leave it too long, my sister got mono and was hospitalized for it because she didn't get it treated right away. I left this for 5 days only because I know myself and I know the course that colds take with me, it's highly unusual for me to still be this bad 5 days later.
What a bad time for this, I mean, on the bright side, I don't have to go outside to walk to school in this cold spell but I'm probably the only person eating posicles non-stop and slurpies every evening. Sadly because of the cold, dry air. I can only make quick trips outside to see the bunnies to feed or check water. :( If I wear a scarf over my mouth I can go outside for 5 minutes before my throat really starts to hurt. Poor Zoey doesn't understand why I'm ignoring her. :( I've already promised that I'll spend time with them the second I can bear to spend time outside.
Pet_Bunny, you don't have snow? We have some, we had a few minutes (like 5) of white out conditions earlier. There's not much but still some!
It's my general opinion that if I'm not well enough to pay total attention in class, then it's a waste to go because it doesn't help you heal any faster if you're not resting. I mean I go when I have have colds.

There was a light dusting, but it's all blown away with the strong winds we had.
