Title: PEOPLE MAKE ME SO MAD!!!!

Bo B Bunny - February 5, 2006 06:22 AM (GMT)
It's been one of those days, weeks..... whatever.

I guess it's a lot of stress and I go kinda crazy! I have enough to deal with, without having other "issues" to attend to.

One thing that has been bugging me is that I was driving down the road a few days ago and saw a little, white, bunny go hopping in front of me. This was out by a corn field. You know someone just dumped him. :(

bunnee mom - February 5, 2006 05:46 PM (GMT)
oh no!!!! :( :( :(

dixonsrabbitry - February 5, 2006 08:58 PM (GMT)
Poor bunny. :(

Bo B Bunny - February 5, 2006 09:26 PM (GMT)
White bunnies aren't wild. I saw him go hopping so fast - I could never have caught him or I would have stopped. :(

Lanna - February 6, 2006 01:26 AM (GMT)
:( That's so sad.

PIPP - February 6, 2006 05:54 AM (GMT)
Look on the positive side. There are some domestic bunnies living wild around here, and they're binkying around like crazy. They look healthy and like they're having the time of their lives.

Maybe his mom was dumped, but he could have been living out there all his life. He's sure to have plenty to eat.

Fantasy doesn't seem to be too unhappy.

Its certainly not the best case scenario, he faces many dangers and ailments. Its not great, but its not always horrible. Think positive thoughts.

For the record, I grew up in an area with bunnies that turned white in the winter. :spice:

Pet Bunny knows about that. :pancake:

Are you sure it was a domestic rabbit? A Snowshoe Hare with it's fuzzy white winter coat looks very much like a domestic white rabbit, except it has brown eyes, not red. In the summer, they are brown with white boots, and look more like a hare than a domestic rabbit.

Bo B Bunny - February 6, 2006 12:08 PM (GMT)
We don't have those here from what I know. We have a huge cottontail population tho :)

This little guy looked like more of a tiny little dwarf or holland...... he was hauling tho, so I didn't see his ears.

He could be fine, but I've always been told that it's just too cold for domestic rabbits to be freely outside in the winter......

Of course that was from the HRS peeps......

Lanna - February 6, 2006 12:25 PM (GMT)
I wont say anything about HRS, but our domestic rabbits are someone else's wild rabbits domesticated by us. Most breeders dont have heated barns. What they do is provide shelter from the wind, and hay to burrow into.

If the bunny is own it's on hopefully he's found shelter, and something to burrow into.

Bunnies run about here outside all the time... and the UK isn't exactly short on wild ones! LOL Don't worry if it is domestic, they generally last pretty well. :) If you see him again, take a fishing net with you! ;)

*is saying nothing about the HRS's stance on outdoor rabbits* <_< Funny how the 160+ in rescue which are outside don't die of the cold/wet/dreaded lurgy throughout all of our winters.

Domestic rabbits can do well outside in the winter. I keep mine outside and it gets to -20F in the winter. The biggest problem for outdoor rabbits is preditors. The Snowshoe Hare weighs only 2 to 3 pounds, so I would put my money on the hare!

bunnies do fine outdoors. :)

must point out thought that the domestic rabbits in NA all came from Delph's side of the water to begin with. they shouldn't live outside here IN THE WILD because they this is a different enviornment, they can't dig their warrens in the meadows and live the way they were designed to live. And don't have immunity to things like the NA mites and the like. But turning them loose isn't a death sentence. They'll live under buildings, etc.. But they on this side of the ocean, they should have human help.

PS: are my PM's not working? do I have bad breath??

Yes.... Almost every morning I see them in the field in front of our house.
One morining I counted 7 all together.
Last week my son said he saw some small ones surrounded by the adults.
They do turn white for the winter, but with the lack of snow, they are easy to spot.
We are having issues with coyotes in the area now. :(

Cool pictures! Thanks for sharing.

Bo B Bunny - February 8, 2006 04:30 PM (GMT)
I wish we had those here, PB! They are lovely! Look at the one binkying away! :P

Did you get "flicky feet" for interupting their meal?

bunnihun - February 9, 2006 02:34 PM (GMT)
They are lovely pb, we have sort of dull brown wild buns and black escapees seem to fair well here in the wild too.

Delphinum - February 9, 2006 03:23 PM (GMT)
:o PB, they run like hares! That one that's jumping looks like it's got it's tail tucked in! They're very pretty! I love white rabbits. *goes to look at Blossom for a while*

MyBabyBunnies - February 9, 2006 03:34 PM (GMT)
We've also had one wandering around my house. One day my dad spotted on and thought it was Spice. :thud: When they told me I about died with worry but I soon realized that it was a wild rabbit. But this weather is also making a mess of their coats, the rabbit I saw still had it's summer color on half of it's ears and a patch on it's side. They just can't decide what color they should be!

We have no snow right now but when we did, I would see fresh rabbit tracks accross the front yard everyday.

None of you guys have those where you live? I thought they were everywhere! I think their Snowshoe Hares.

Bo B Bunny - February 9, 2006 03:39 PM (GMT)
I thought Cottontails were everywhere LOL!

It's funny what people assume.

We had a visitor from Texas one time and she was amazed at all the Canadian Geese we have here. She loved them. Most people are annoyed by them.

MyBabyBunnies - February 9, 2006 03:42 PM (GMT)
I've been chased by Canadian Geese. <_<

We had family from the States (Kansas I think) come up here and we took them to the mountains to go to the hot springs on a day trip and on the way down the mountain when we were heading home, they saw a bear on the side of the road and they had to stop the van so they could take pictures, they had never seen a black bear before. They were also amazed at the Mountain Goats.

Bo B Bunny - February 9, 2006 03:54 PM (GMT)
You have Mountain Goats?!?! Oh I'd love to see those. I've seen bear but not like that. Usually a roadside zoo type thing and the regular zoo.

My hubby was amazed by the Moose in northern Michigan.

MyBabyBunnies - February 9, 2006 05:26 PM (GMT)
Well not here exactly, I live on the plains so no Mountain Sheep but the mountains are only about 3 hours away so it's nice! Mountain Sheep are more of an annoyance, they stand in the middle of the roads in parks and don't care to move. <_< Though there are bears around here as well, not so much here because of all the people but a little farther west in the small farming communities they do. There's moose as well and beavers but I've only ever seen one beaver!
