I know there has been a huge controversy going on over this book and the author, and I thought I would get your views over it. See.. this author was raised in the same town I was born and raised in.. St. Joseph, MI. Maybe because of this and the fact that he seems to hate the town as much as I did that I feel the need to stick behind him. Personally, the book was NOT a biography, so I do not see why he is being rediculed for embelishing things in it. It's a book! Not everything written in a book has to be true. A book is meant to be sold and entertain readers.. and that is what he did. Anyway.. what do you think??
I haven't read the book either. I think the controversy lies in the fact that the publisher is promoting this book as a memoir. The definition of the word memoir is autobiography, and an autobiography is supposed to be a factual accounting...not an embellished one. Jim Frey admitted that he embellished some details. However, according to him it's only about 18 pages out of 400+. If the book were promoted as strictly fiction, there wouldn't be a problem.
