This one is for the breeders, since it obviously doesn't apply to pet owners. How do you feel about other breeders renaming your rabbits? Or you renaming someone elses? What about ear numbers?
Personally, 90% of the time I keep the rabbits name if it is written on the pedigree. Unless it is absolutley horrendous, I am not going to change it. I think it's the breeders priveledge to get to name the rabbits they breed, and for them to keep them throughout there life. However some people are name challenged, so in some cases a name change is in order, LOL.
I do like when people keep the names for rabbits I have bred.. although I am not going to hunt them down if they change it. I do however expect that if they change the name they keep the ear number I have assigned to that rabbit, just for record purposes.
How about you? :)
Any rabbits I sell as pets can be renamed. I sell them as pets because they wont do well on the show table or cant benefit my breeding program. So, I dont want them putting that rabbit on the table once they get it with my name on it. (Heavenly's) Or breeding it to something else since I obviously didnt think it was an animal that should/could be used to better the breed. For those reasons I dont give a pedigree with a pet bunny. They have every right to change names in those instances.

If they choose to rename them they need to inform me so I can change it in my records. As a general rule I dont mind them changing names.

If they give me permission...I rename them. (That's if I dont like the name they have.) I always let them know. If they have a horrible name or something that doesnt fit but the breeder hasnt given me permission to rename them...I'll call them whatever I name them, but leave their pedigree name alone.

I never change another breeder's ear numbers. Many breeders use certain numbers/letters to keep up with their different lines and changing an ear number can upset their whole system.
No one has permission to change ear numbers given to my rabbits. It's their ID system and I wont recognize any rabbit with the wrong ear number as part of my herd.
I had to change my rabbits name when I got them. Their pedigree says MR Red and White. Cute name right? But as for the others I didn't get from breeders and don't have pedigrees or ear #s.
