Meet Jesse
Jesse is A chestnut Agouti mini lop born Jan of 1994. Jesse Org comes from Maine. And his story as I know it is, some people bought him as a baby, around 8 weeks old, they ran some kind of child care and they couldn't decide to have jesse as an indoor rabbit or an outdoor rabbit and constantly were changing their minds housing him in then out over his first 2 years of life. Add to this some damaged teeth that turned into malclusion. They decided they didn't want to move him in yet again so they gave him up to a breeder I used to know.

She knew my mother adored lops so she gave us a call to see if we would be interested in him. So i went over to look at him and took him home. he was kind of both my mums and mine.. But due to the fact she could not maintain his teeth, I took him with me after I moved... Well I moved early in 97, 300 miles away and didn't take him with me untill nov of 99.. but i would go home almost monthly at that time to do his teeth upkeep. (had moved into an apt in 97 and bought a house in 99, however I did take a rabbit with me, Chloe, he was a small polish rabbit, and so attached to his mummy he wouldn't eat if he wasn't with me, in fact I had to make a special trip up to my mums to go get him and bring him with us(hubby and myself)

the local vet in the area was not comfortable in rabbit medicine and he had told me I could do as good a job if not better trimming the teeth since Jesse was comfortable with me.

many rabbits not a days with teeth as horrible as his can have them removed and still go on to live nice normal lives. IF i had had a vet atnthe time knollegable and comfortable in rabbits I would have opted for that option.

I have been cutting Jesse's teeth monthly to every other month depending on growth for 9+ years now. However he is a wonderful laid back rabbit..

He does has arthritis now and that is being mannaged with a daily oral pain medicine.
Jesse however has never been an outgoing rabbit, he has always been laidback so the only pictures I ever get of him are him laying down being a couch potato ...

Gabby! He's adorable!

He looks very happy laying there :)

Why on Earth would someone put a bunny through so much I'll never know!

I'm so happy for him that you have such dedication! He is doing great it looks like and he's 11 years old! I imagine if he hadn't gotten away from the first place; he'd have not made it as long.

** I like this weekly column already! :)

It's sort of like a diary of your bunnies for you, too isn't it?

Delphinum - April 13, 2005 06:28 PM (GMT)
Aww he's gorgeous! His fur looks so soft!
I'm going to pin this, so you won't have to search for it if it goes down a page...

Bo B Bunny - April 13, 2005 07:15 PM (GMT)
Something about him makes me want to just rub his ears and head :) He's got that lazy lovey look to him.... :)

it's a try and remember thing I must say... just like i forgot Jesse came withe the name JR, the people forgot what they named him so they called him JR, My mum and I settled on Jesse Riggs for the letters but he is almost always just Jesse, and he knows his name quite well. he never misbehaves so i never cal out his full name except a while back when he nearly jumped 6 feet down onto concrete.. He heard a crinkle and thoughts I had a treat....

I have to admit I think I'm gonna print this out when I get going on it and add it to my scrap book so I will have something extra to look back on, this is info I have not included but would like to remember down the road..

Look at this! We help with bunnies, discuss movies and rant about stuff.... PLUS we have already helped someone to find theirself!!!

Just call us the RABBITmovieRANTpsychotherapy board! ;) :P

Kate - April 15, 2005 08:25 AM (GMT)
Missed a day or so and I find everything's been moved and this :D My favourite thing, a nice long ongoing serial of pics and rabbit stories. Jesse looks gorgeous and sounds wonderfully laidback. I'm very glad you persuaded him not to do that six foot drop onto concrete, that would have been awful :( he sounds like a bit of a greedy bun for treats, silly boy :P

Lanna - April 15, 2005 11:54 AM (GMT)
Gabby...great story. I'm so glad you decided to do this. Look forward to hearing aout more of your buns and their success stories.

Bo B Bunny - April 15, 2005 05:49 PM (GMT)
I agree! It's great to read stories like this.

I also hope that the breeders will give us a story on their litters and things :)

Maybe how you got into breeding and who they are ........

We pet owners can oooo and aaaaaaahhhhh all the bunnies and write about our rabbit history if we like.... I think it'll be fun :)

i agree it's nice to read real life stories, and while people may not always reply(i am so guilty of that) they quite often do read, thats why it's nice to see the veiws of a post so you know it's being read or looked at..

I had planned to do a different bun but that involves uploading some pics to a web site so that will have to wait This guys pics were already availble ;)

This is Rocky, Rocky is a Tort dutch, he was born April 22, 1997 other reason i picked his B-day tomorrow He will be 8 yrs old.

Rocky as I understand it led the first few years of his life as a show rabbit, and i'm sure reproducing mini Rockys..

In his life time he had won BOB and received 2 legs twards his grandchampionship.

But on nearly his 4th birthday they decided Rocky had lived out his usefulness and placed him on a raffel table. He had also over time started to develope white hairs on his ears which were starting to turn into spots which is a DQ for showing.

Hubby and i saw him and even hubby liked him and said lets put tickets in on him.. And so we did, Rocky has a wonderful personality he seems like a rabbit who enjoyed being shown and as a result he makes a great bun to take to child day cares to teach about rabbits as he doesn't mind all those kids looking at his belly or his feet as long as he is being admired.

if you scratch his side he will kiss you for hours, all he requests is you give him an old oat container as his "live in girlfriend"..

he loves to ponder too, you can see him sitting in deep thoughts quite often.. hubby says it looks like he's thinking about pooping :P

ok mind you on this particular day we went home with 4 new rabbits.. one i took home for a friend as she had wanted him but had no place for him at the time or the money for a travel container so he lived with me for 2 months till she got him a house i'll tell you about the other 2 at a later date... :graydutch:
i love that new bunny smilies show up all the time in our selections :pinkbun:

I bet the kids love him!

gabby - April 21, 2005 01:49 PM (GMT)
ok and now i'm just plain delaying, i must go attend to my litter boxes as I have to work this afternoon.... can I just pretend I did my bxes? will they smell just as clean? LOL

OH i suppose not...sigh... Ok off I got to clean my boxes... fun fun fun in the land of savage litter boxes watch out the next box will get you :evilbun:

oh my goodness my typing has gotten SOOOO much faster just in the last 6 months even the last few days I think... And I type pretty darn fast if i do say so myself..... Corse i amaze people with my 3 finger typing but hey it works for me thats all that counts right???? LOL

I do use my second hand but thats for shift and back space and that junk I only use one hand for typing letters.... I just can't use my pinky or my ring finger to type so it's pointer, middle finger and thumb..

ok and i don't even know why i'm talking about this other than i noticed my typing style has changed?? maybe that's it... that and putting off changing litter boxes..... OK OK OK i'm going... HERE I COME YOU DIRTY LITTER BOXES!!!!!!!!!!!!! You better be quaking in your boots :evilbun: :shockbun:

hadn't realized it was earth day tomorrow... 1 g/f lasts him him between 8 months to a year.. he doesn't chew her much, just a little... but he does take her everywhere, in his cabin, in his litter box, used her to knock off his bottle last night.. sometimes she gets alot of "affection" if you know what i mean :winkybun: :shockbun: but he loves his g/f so i'm glad she makes him happy.. and look at that she doesn't have to cook or clean or anything just be a lazy bump on the log lol lmao

Delphinum - April 21, 2005 02:13 PM (GMT)
LMAO! He's adorable! I love his colouring!
LOL @ your typing... my dad types with one finger and he says it's "fast enough for me!"...
Don't mention litter boxes... :ph43r: *gets out the rubber gloves*

Bo B Bunny - April 21, 2005 04:33 PM (GMT)
LMBO! Gabby and her typing and litterboxes and his g/f!!!

I was going to ask if she got lovings? lmao! Is he neutered?

How cute he must be dragging his g/f around with him.

I type the "official" way but a couple of letters I didn't learn exactly right.... just a couple and I don't even have letters on my keyboard on the home row.....I wore them off..... and there's a hole in my left shift key from my fingernail.....  My fastest typing was 120 wpm. That was on old, electric typewriters!! I'm such a dinosaur!!

****backs away from Bo's nails***

I have to say I have never worn a hole into a key before....

No he's not, but even my neutered boys hump so doesn't make much a difference... I had thought about getting him done when I started at the clinic, but he was already past the age she does elective surgeries on a rabbit, she doesn't like to do an elective surgery on buns over 5.. But thats ok, he seems quite happy as he is..

dang them old elteric typewriters... i had to write a paper on one of those.. big old and loud!!!!

Rocky is prob glad it's an oat box and not a bun like Ginger, Poor Peter-Salem Ginger wears the pants in their house LOL he is her slave... :shockbun: and he eats it right up bowing down too her.... if he was human he'd be visiting a domanatrix??(sp)(peter that is) either that he'd be married to one LOL

that reminds me i gotta get working on building some my cages... i was working on one this am after i did litter boxes but had to stop and go to work.. that darn job thing just gets in the way :P
however i think i'll let that go untill tomorrow after work.. now i think i'm gonna go fill the tub and take a nice bath ...ahhhhhhhhh :D
