How do you delete your own stories/topics?

No, you're not dumb, you merely can't find what is not there.

You have to ask Mean Gene to delete a story.

Or, you can edit the story and simply wipe out its contents.

Unfortunately, you can't change the title even when editing so that will stay.

Until, of course, Gene gets around to actually deleting the thread.

Good to know my eyes aren't completely gone then. B)
