What was your favourite BBS`s?

I`d have to say Digital Candy was superb for legal only stuff.. other personal favourites include Spaced Out (later Fine line), Boondocks and Los Endos.
Trying to rack my brains.. :)

The 1st ever bbs i logged onto was Rock Lobster and i d/l a few GV's from there :)
(legal bbs)

I also remember Spaced Out bbs run by Zoltrix (he was crazy but kewl , he phoned me @ 3am in the morning to lemme know a new warez was on his bbs)

Digital Candy was good but didnt use it much.

There was a bbs run By TEX but cant remember the name now :( .. Tex was a decent bloke and helped me set up my own bbs.

9 Lives was a good bbs

The tower was a top bbs but he sysop used to nick peoples d/l and use them as his own lol....

Think thats all i ever used

My main hang outs were:

Bills BBS (a local board)
Entertainment UK (nottingham)
Jelly Zone BBS (newcastle)

and occasional visits to Online PD BBS

I hit the BBS scene relativley late so unfortunately missed the days of Digital Candy.

Still like to look at Telnet boards just for the ANSI nostalgia rush. :)

I also got into the BBS scene a little late but I used to hang on:

* Dosshouse (also Electric Warrior too) - was a co-sysop for a while too
* Digital Candy - I think I was there after it went shit though... I was a top uploader for a while ya see so it must have been going down hill.

Shortly after that it was just cheaper and easier to use the internet.

Wow, a few Candy fans here - it was a sh!thot bbs. I think Simba or MajicMushroom took it over after Hybrid, whether he sold it I dunno. This was during my days of getting cut off from BT for having large unpaid phone bills, so I wasn't there the day it vanished altogether, if I recall. Check my sig for my lengthier AmiExpress tribute.

Phew.. yeah those damn phone bills! That's one area of the old skool scene I don't miss one bit. :)

Do you do any Telnet BBS'ing at all? It's suprising how many boards are still running in this form.

Check Window Of Illusion out for starters

Paste this into yer browser telnet://woibbs.org

Yeah it's a damn shame. I know things have moved on but a Telnet BBS is more entertaining than just leeching files from an FTP site any day.

BBS's yeah that takes me back think the first BBS I logged into was ran by a guy called John Marchant - Moonlight BBS.....wonder how he's doing? And ex- School master if i remember correctly?

Oh far too many BBS's to remember LOL

But I too remember the huge phone bills even at 1p per minute they soon added up

Can you imagine doing windows service pack2 on dialup at 1p per min  now that would take forever...

Ah, John Marchant, yeah forgot about him. I remember he was quite old when we used to visit his BBS about 10 years ago. Now John did bring a whole new meaning to the term 'old skool'. :)

Think the last time I spoke to him he was still flying the Amiga flag, but begrudgingly he also bought a PC to see what all the fuss was about.

Alphabase - November 8, 2005 12:16 PM (GMT)
Yeah thats right cant remember how old he was but I do remeber he was well passed retirement age LOL

And I also remember him buying a PC too.....

It happens to us all the poor old Amiga hey.....in the right hands thats could of killed the PC world.....
