Flushentity - May 12, 2008 08:28 PM (GMT)
Ok guys, here is one for the real /X bbs surfers:

uzisuicide.servebbs.org

Telnet to her now and join - Its running on a A3000T, she has not been fired up since 97 until now!!

Nice one. I just had a look and logged in and registered myself on there. :)

Brings back some memories using a BBS again.

Nice memory trip for some of you guys but i was never really on any bbs'es apart from odd time at friends houses etc.

i remeber vague memorys of jrcomm and ncomm or summat like that it really is sketchy for me ;) we had 2400 baud modem when everyone else had 14.4k or better jesus at that time i was still using a proper red phone box lol:)

Wasn't around yesterday when you posted this, Flush. Is it still online?

I still like to do some telnetting now and again (for the nostalgia rush) and it's great to see people still running them and letting us wallow in ANSI screen heaven. :D

She is up and running again. Wow - It looks beautiful! So long since i have seen /X running as sweet as that!!

DaZZaBoY - May 18, 2008 03:05 PM (GMT)
Finally got a third party Telnet client installed and registered on there this after. Great to see an 'active' BBS running again and this stuff looks great on a black background. ;)

Nice vibe!

Thanks for the nice comments. The board was online from 88-97 then I shut it down when I moved away. I hadn't touched an Amiga since 97 then I was home at my parents for the holidays this past year and found my old Amiga sitting in the attic. My mom had thrown away all my disks keyboard and mouse. After some searching on ebay I found some parts and got it up and running. So now we are now back from the dead after an 11 year absense.

Back for the future eh don27dog ;)

i'll have a look sometime but will need some help as i'm a noob ;)

@Don: Great to see Uzi Suicide back online - I see from the last callers list, you've been receiving a good few 'hits' since you went live again. Where exactly in the US are you based?

@Sarek: Check out these links for getting connected:

http://www.dmine.com/bbscorner/connected.htm

mTelnet is recommnded but doesn't seem to like Vista? Should be fine under XP tho. I'm currently using CRT 6.0 and seems fine so far.

Did you know there is a telnet client built into Windows? Not sure if it is in XP Home, but for Win2000Pro and XP Pro it is. And you can launch it from a browser just by using the url telnet:// followed by the bbs address. This will launch a new tenet session window and connect you to the server.

DaZZaBoY - May 19, 2008 07:01 PM (GMT)
Doesn't work by default under Vista tho.

Harrison - May 19, 2008 09:15 PM (GMT)
As expected, I just did a quick search and M$ decided to switch Telnet off by default in Vista. It is however there and it is quite straight forward to get it back.

Here is a quite guide:

DaZZaboy,

Originally from Connecticut but living on Long Island NY for the last 15 years.

zYX! - May 20, 2008 06:39 PM (GMT)
Just reg'ed on uzisuicide now!

Definately brings back a lot of memories! :)

DaZZaBoY - May 21, 2008 12:05 PM (GMT)
@Harrison: I had an incling that it would just be a case of reactivating the Telnet function under Vista but I remember using mTelnet under XP, so wanted to give that another whirl. Alas, it didn't work so I used another client. Will check out your link though - ta.

@don27dog: It was suprising how active the US BBS scene was (and still is today!) but I used to only call UK boards due to the obvious cost issues. ;) Have you checked out the BBS list I linked to in my PM to you?

For the benefit of the others, here it is again: http://www.telnetbbsguide.com/

@Flush: Also give our old muckers at Window Of Illusion a call --> woibbs.org

zYX! - May 21, 2008 09:20 PM (GMT)
I just opened up a cmd prompt and used the standard telnet command on XP.

Quite amused to hear that it is yet another VERY BASIC function that is a struggle on Vista.

Harrison - May 21, 2008 11:13 PM (GMT)
Apparently according to M$ Telnet access can be a security risk so it is now disabled as default.

Using that logic they should disable IE too then.

Any other Ami-Express boards still around?
