Title: classicamiga.com down

Harrison - March 12, 2008 01:53 AM (GMT)
Just a quick post to let you all know that classicamiga.com is currently experiencing server trouble and has been down since 4pm on Tuesday.

I can still access the server via shell or ftp and perform actions on the files, but the domains and therefore sites hosted on the server cannot be accessed. I have no idea why as normally if the server can be accessed the sites will also work correctly.

Anyone got any ideas?

I've contacted the server's host so that they can investigate this further.

Could a DoS attack be happening? I know CA does have a few enemies! ;)

@harrison why post in the guest area???

anyway my other fave site (torrentleech) has been suffering ddos attacks for the last couple of days and been slow as hell i think they have it licked for now untill the next time!

i know nothing about hacking but hope you get sorted m8 i could see your point about having some enemies but nothing beyond forum talk and certainly not enough to attack CA in this way :(

Well, I was unsure where else on the forum to stick the announcement. If you think there is a better place to move this topic please do.

classicamiga is now back up and working. It seemed that although the server was running fine and could be pinged, the domains had somehow become disconnected from the server and were all returning an "unable to connect" error.

The technical support ran a webfix for the domains that refreshed the server and everything was working again within the hour. They are not sure what went wrong, but the fix did sort it out.

Very strange. DNS server issues maybe?

@Harrison: Has CA been behaving itself lately or are the gremlins still in town?

Since they fixed the domain issue the server has been up and running fine AFAIK.

But I have had some strange slowdown issues with it a few times. I have no idea what caused them, but in the server logs the CPU load is very high which I can't work out.

I have however noticed that since the server software was upgraded by them two weeks ago the load has been much higher so it could be something they have done. I need to investigate more. Although classicamiga's visitor rates have been shooting up. We are now getting over 1000 page views per hour which is much higher than last year.

But I am now looking at alternative dedicated server hosts to see what else is available as I am seriously considering moving. I would keep 1and1 as the registrar of my domains, but shift the dedicated server hosting to another company.

Not sure who or when but will let you know if I decide to move.

The main site has been working fine, but for some reason the forum domain was playing up this morning. forum.classicamiga.com couldn't be accessed, but forum.classicamiga.info which points to the same place was working. Very strange. Probably some DNS or data centre rooting issue.

Hopefully you can all see and access it again now?
