Just saw Fantastic Four.
>deep sigh<
This deserves an entire blogpost, but I'll keep it short cuz most people won't care.
The Four were great. The Torch looked awesome, the Thing...not so much, but I respect the fact that it's tough to make a believable rock-skin. I did miss his rocky brow, too. Reed and Sue were both great....which leaves Doom.
Doom. Oh dear. What a colossal bucket of suck.
First pet peeve, and by far the biggest: He KEPT HIS LAME ASS REGULAR VOICE.
This is a guy named Dr. DOOM, for Christ's sake. He wears an IRON MASK. HE'S EVIL. This is villains 101...you change his voice and make it sound threatening!!!! The changed the THING'S voice...CHANGE DOOM'S!!!! Instead he sounds like a freakin' car salesman.
They dropped the entire dictator thing. They even dropped the fact that in the comics, he's a guy in a suit. And the battle with Doom is singularly anticlimactic. In short, Doom just sucks, and that's a shame, seeing how he's one of the coolest villains in Marvel Comics.
There are a lot of other dumb things in the movie too, mostly centering around the Thing, but you can live with them. Dr. Doom is just the worst treatment of a comic character I've seen since the old 90's Captain America movie where the Red Skull was ITALIAN and Cap wore PLASTIC EARS (TRAVESTY!). At this point, I expect a lot more from Marvel films, particularly when they're capable of so much more-just look at the Spider-Man and X-Men movies.
Anyone else as bitter as me?
Haven't seen it. Won't see it in theaters now. Thanks for the heads up.
You know, it's a shame that computer graphics took all this time to catch up with the imagination of the directors, but now it seems as if they've killed all the good directors and replaced them with directobots or something.
I don't like it. No sir, I don't.
