This tutorial will teach you how to make a neat ring of light...of what ever you think it looks like ;-P

First of all open a new document, or press Ctrl + O, and use the following settings:
Width: 400 pixels
Height: 370 pixels
Background Contents: White

at first, press D to reset your colours to white and black

Then draw a circle (hold down Shift for a pefectly round circle)

Then apply Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen...There will be a pop-up asking you whether you want to rasterize or not, choose "Yes"

The apply Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates and choose the Polar to Rectangular option
You'll get something like this:

And as a finishing touch, hit Ctrl + U for colour options, and choose Colorize, and play around to get the desired colour, I got the following

Another one finishing touch is dublicate the layer and set the mode on vivid light, works really nice if you colorized the ring to red or yellow :)

This is my result:

That's a great tutorial, but I had a problem. When I set the layer mode to Difference, the top layer dissapeared! I tried the tutorial again and got exactly the same. Is an explanation possible for this?

my guess is that in the flip process figures ended up exactly overlapping, so it would match the white background, "disappearing"
