This will teach you how to make your text have a metal finish.
Step 1:
Type some text into your document, then apply
Layer - Rasterize - Type.

Step 2:
Make a new layer (
CTRL-SHIFT-N).
Fill it with grey (#666666) and apply
Filter - Noise - Add Noise.
Settings:
Amount: 10%
Gaussian
Monochromatic checked.

Step 3:
Now apply
Filter - Blur - Motion Blur.
Settings:
Angle: 0 degrees
Distance: 30 px.

Step 4:
Now
CTRL-click in the little "T"Mark in your layers palete.
You will see that the outlining of your text becomes selected.
Now press
CTRL-SHIFT-I to invert the selection and press
DELETE.

Step 5:
Starting to look metallic yet?
You can throw away the rasterized text layer in the layers palete now.
Now we are going to apply some layer styles.
Apply some default gradient overlay but put it on Soft Light.
Also apply some default Drop shadow.
Now put these settings for the Bevel and Emboss:

Contours:

Inner shadow:
