What is the other $507 Billion being spent on?

Hmmm interesting. It could either mean the $189b is added onto the $696 on that it is part of it. Either way that means there is over $500b left over...

-Pay for military members
-Housing
-Meals
-Transportation
-Education and Training
-Equipment and supplies
-Facilities and their maintenance
-Aircraft, vehicles, vessels
-Health care
-Civilian employees/contractors
-Etc.
Military spending involves much more than just war expenditures. In fact, war expendentitures are a very small part (obviously--only 189 out of 696 billion). In fact, if you read the OP's entire article, you'll discover it talks about salaries (pay raise for veterans) and contractors.

So in other words...a giant waste, as per usual. Noted.

Paying our veterans [who defend our liberties when we choose not to ourselves (although I did serve 11 years)] and providing them housing and healthcare is a "giant waste"? Noted.
