Added: November 06, 2007
Students were suspended after holding an Anti War rally. How else can the kids learn They are threatening some students with expulsion
High School is an important time in life. They have recruiters come to the school but the students aren't allowed to Protest in Illinois?

Next time the recruiters are allowed to come to my school, I'm holding anti war signs right in front of them. :)

Can one of you US posters explain what "High school" means in terms of age. As I would like to know what kind of age and schooling those kids have reached, and the rest of the world has a completely different system to you.
when I fill out a myspace survey it asks all about "grade school" and "high school" I have never heard of those things or of any of the qualifications they mention, and meanwhile most of the degree titles myself and my friends have are not even mentoned.

Funny, because whenever I go to Ireland, I can't understand their system. :P
You graduate High School and go to college in the 12'th grade. High school is grades 9-12. It takes a year to complete a grade. I'm 16, and I'm in the 11th grade. I'll be 17 in 3 months.
Hope that clears it up a bit.

Thanks for your reply It makes good sense to me. So you didn't start school until you were 5 years old then ?
----------------------------------------------
I went to an infants school Starting at 4 years old.
then a "middle school" at 8 years old, where I had 4 years M1,M2,M3,M4
Then I went to a comprehensive school at 12 years old, where I joined in year 2 because a small number of 1st years come to the comprehensive school from Junior schools, a year earlier in the 1st year.
I was at my comprehensive school from 2nd year, 3rd, 4th, 5th.
In the 5th year I took my exams which were O-levels and CSEs I took these when I was 15.
The 6th and 7th year is called the "6th form" Lower 6th and Upper 6th but it is optional and I went to a technical college instead.
At college I did two years Aged 16 -18 and I got an Electrical and Electronic Engineer's Diploma. As well as a practical engineering qualification at a training centre, It was a heavy going time I attended 46 hours a week on both these courses.
After College I went to University for 3 years until I was 21 and got A higher Degree qualification in Electronics and Microelectronics.

I started at 6.
Generally grade school is grades K-5, middle school/junior high is 6-8, and high school is 9-12. You graduate around 17, 18 or 19 years old depending on circumstances.

Hey thanks Shureshot,
that is really interesting that Some children in western society start school almost 2 years before others in different countries.
We have an ongoing debate among educationalists in the UK about people born in August having a poorer academic performance than those with birthdays in September to December.
Speaking for myself I was born in July, which places me at the end of the Academic year. I have an idea that his made me slightly less emotionally mature than most of my classmates, but I don't mind because I am eternally optimistic about things and I feel that I had many advantages.
K-5 sounds like a gun you Americans are so fond of!

You're truly disgusting. Isn't there a "Moron Forum" somewhere that people who think that kind of remark is funny can gather for mutual pleasure?

My birthday lands at the end of November around thanksgiving.
Each year my age was what i was on the first day of school that school year, but each year 2 1/2 to 3 months after school started it was my birthday.
VVVV PreK is optional but it helps.
I went to Prek (Pre-Kindergarten) when I was 4,
then Kindergarten when I was 5,
1st grade at 6,
2nd at 7
3rd at 8
4th at 9
5th at 10
middle school starts
6th grade at 11
7th at 12
8th at 13
high school starts
(9) freshman year at 14
(10) Sophmore year at 15
(11) Junior year at 16
(12) Senior year at 17
so i was 18 years old for most of my senior year.
Started my 4 year college at 18.
im on my 3rd year right now almost at the end of my 1st semester.
