Title: Flight 175
Description: Discussion of UA 175

benjaminwebb1983 - November 3, 2007 11:46 PM (GMT)
This is Flight 175's descent. Can a plane drop in altitude this fast and still stay in control.
8:58 AM 25,000 Feet
9:00 AM 18,500 Feet
9:02 AM 9,000 Feet

But then it hits the south tower at a height of around 1000 feet at 9:02:40 which means the flight descended over 8000 feet in 40 seconds. Would this not send the plane out of control...

Then the last 52 - 60 miles of the planes journey were cover in 4 mins 40 seconds. This places speed between 668 Mph and 771 Mph Maximum cruising speed for Boeing 767 is 568 MPH and that is at cruising altitude. The plane would go much lower speeds at lower altitudes.

This information is in the NTSB report. A lot of sources say flight 175 hit the south tower at 590 MPH, even NIST says 540 MPH. these speeds are not attainable at the lower altitudes. And a plane going at these speeds would be out of control so badly hitting the tower would have been very hard to do.

Please dont think I am a No Planer, I believe planes hit the buildings, Just up for question is was it UA 175. Is this not a big smoking gun ? If this topic has been discussed I am sorry for repeating. Just seen it on other forums but not on here...

Hello ben,

If we take into consideration the fact that flight 93 crashed into a field at 500mph and left a little hole and very little else, and add to that, the fact that flight 77 crashed into the pentagon at a similar speed and left a small hole, and very little else then, it might be safe to assume that the events at WTC are not as clear cut as we would be led to believe.

Hello ben,

That is an excellent point to. The officials change there stories. They say that at the pentagon and shanksville because of the sheer speed of the planes, and at the pentagon the strength of the building that is why the planes left such little damage and debris. But at the WTC we are meant to believe that planes of a similar size to Flight 77 or 93 could have impacted the buildings and caused so much damage and destruction that these solid steel strctures were reduced to rubble. How can a plane cause so much damage at the trade center, yet so little damage to the pentagon. I mean when you look at the story of the WTC in the NIST report they state that, I think I may be right in saying, 30 % of the fuel was burnt up in the initial impact. Leaving the rest of the fuel to cause the raging inferno that melted / weakened the steel. Well can I ask one thing. Of all the pictures I have seen of flight 93 crash never have I seen fire. I mean would all the jet fuel not have been burning for a while. There is thousands of gallons. Where did it all go ? Dont forget the story is that in the WTC the jet fuel was keeping the fires going until the buildings collapsed. So where did it go in Shanksville....No fires there...

Now admittedly one would seem worse as the buildings had collapsed thus making the scene look much worse. But here my comparison is really to show just the destructive force a plane with 10,000 gallons of fuel had in one place, turning buildings to dust. But in another place we get a hole in the ground. Why when the plane went down in shanksville was there no fireball. Just a puff of smoke....

8000 feet= 1.5 miles
if plane travelling at 400mph, it is travelling at 6.667 miles per minute
if it descended 1.5 miles in 40 seconds, the rate of vertical descent is 1.5/40*60 = 2.25 miles per minute
using pythagoras right angle triangle
hypotenuse = 6.667, vertical is 2.25
angle (THETA) of descent from the horizontal is given by sin(THETA)=2.25/6.667
theta= arc_sin (0.337) = 19 degrees.

I'm not a pilot, but a 19 degree descent seems to be in the limits of a planes capability?

at higher speeds the angle of descent would be less steep - 500mph=15 degrees.

4) the phone calls of passengers. See:

http://www.9-11commission.gov/report/911Report_Ch1.htm

At 8:59, Flight 175 passenger Brian David Sweeney tried to call his wife, Julie. He left a message on their home answering machine that the plane had been hijacked. He then called his mother, Louise Sweeney, told her the flight had been hijacked, and added that the passengers were thinking about storming the cockpit to take control of the plane away from the hijackers.48

This passenger does not signal the very quick descent of flight 175.The next, "Lee Hanson," "think" we are going down...

At 9:00, Lee Hanson received a second call from his son Peter:

It's getting bad, Dad-A stewardess was stabbed-They seem to have knives and Mace-They said they have a bomb-It's getting very bad on the plane-Passengers are throwing up and getting sick-The plane is making jerky movements-I don't think the pilot is flying the plane-I think we are going down-I think they intend to go to Chicago or someplace and fly into a building-Don't worry, Dad- If it happens, it'll be very fast-My God, my God.49

The call ended abruptly. Lee Hanson had heard a woman scream just before it cut off. He turned on a television, and in her home so did Louise Sweeney. Both then saw the second aircraft hit the World Trade Center.

5) Telephone used by Lee Hanson. See "Wikipedia United Airlines Flight 175:

Three passengers, Pete Hanson, Brian David Sweeney, and Garnet Bailey made phone calls, all from GTE AIRPHONES, from United Airlines Flight 175. Flight attendant Robert Fangman also made phone calls .

Go there and see how wikipedia have now changed the flight speed of united 175 impacting south tower. It now reads as follows

""""[edit] Crash
At 9:03, Flight 175 crashed into the southern facade of Tower 2 of the World Trade Center (south tower), travelling at approximately 545 miles per hour and impacting between floors 77 and 85 with approximately 10,000 gallons of jet fuel.[12] As seen in the image, the plane was banking left upon impact. Onboard were 56 passengers (including the 5 hijackers) and 9 crew members, and none survived. Hundreds more were killed within the tower and from its ensuing explosion, fires, and collapse. Around 600 people were killed instantly or trapped at and above the floors of impact in the South Tower (2 WTC)."""""""""

When I printed out this article on sept 28 2007 it read that the impact was 590 MPH.

Why would this now all of a sudden change as discussions of the flight exceeding maximum speed of a boeing started on a few forums...

add this to that ... interesting

Does anyone have any sources on the official speed of flight 175 into the south tower. Would just like to see what it was meant to be. If this is faster than the max speed flight 175 could have gone how was this explained.

even more striking is that there were no bodies recovered from the planes that hit the pentagon and shanksville....where are the bodies??where are the autopsy reports ??where... where... where.......?? that hole in shanksville is clearly not from a jumbo jet
