Title: The Coming Freedom Tower
Description: What wil happen to it?

buckfush00 - December 9, 2006 10:15 PM (GMT)
Now that the WTC are gone, someone had the idea of building another tower in their place, this one called "Freedom Tower." This is what it is supposed to look like after completion:

http://www.turkishdailynews.com.tr/photo/62006/m47596.jpg

It looks okay, and the idea of rebuilding after a terrible loss is great, but something about that building just doesn't seem right to me. I don't know what it is, maybe it just seems to diminish the WTC to me. I really don't know.

I know this will probably never happen, but here is a representation of what fate may befall Freedom Tower:

Interesting.

I've knew about the 'Freedom Tower' for 2 years now. Nothing has happen! They are still working on WTC7, I believe...oh well. Looks good though! B)

buckfush00 - December 10, 2006 12:12 AM (GMT)
Seriously they are coming slow...

It's not supposed to be completed until 2009 i think. ;)

thehighwaymanq - December 14, 2006 09:07 PM (GMT)

buckfush00 - December 15, 2006 12:11 AM (GMT)
I'm not saying that a terrorist attack is going to happen there again but...

It is possible.

Reggie_perrin - December 15, 2006 01:09 AM (GMT)
Ive just realized the dirty connotations of this threads title, now that would be worth building, a coming tower :D

But seriously, I don't thing the new "comming" ;) tower is going to be destroyed. It would be too suspicious... and stupid. They say they are progressing in this phantom war against terrorism, destroying the "comming" tower won't do any good, IMO.

buckfush00 - December 15, 2006 04:37 AM (GMT)
You're right, it would raise too many suspicions for the bush administration to handle, but still be aware.

He says we are progressing in the war, but really.

Are you gonna believe that coot, especially after he lied about something as massive as 9/11?

Be ready, a "terrorist" attack COULD (may, you never know with bush as the pres.) happen at any time, or anywhere.

Think about the Space Needle in Seattle, or the Sears Tower in Chicago.

If indeed another terrorist attack does come, I don't expect it to be small

thehighwaymanq - January 12, 2007 02:18 AM (GMT)
do you think its smart to make the FT ( 1776 feet tall) 300 feet taller than the twin towers

Smacklug - January 12, 2007 05:30 AM (GMT)
Yeah, it's stupid, both because it's a massive waste of money when much less expensive and possibly more tasteful designs could be used.
I mean, its top quarter is all just wasted space for god's sake.

Revolutionary91 - January 12, 2007 02:28 PM (GMT)
I think I heard the first beam was put in....but I think that was months ago...

1776. Why ever would an American use that figure to connotate "Freedom"?

The freedom tower is a typical American design. For example, the design of the Sydney Opera House is known all thought the world - it's unique, a fantastic design, memorable and an Aussie icon.

The design of the freedom tower cannot hold a candle to the Taipei 101 (the tallest building in the world, modelled after the bamboo grass) which is a very beautiful design, unique and iconic. With that said the freedom tower does look ironically American - however the twin towers was known throughout the world like the Opera House and the Eiffel Tower. Replacing them with a single towers shorter than the two original ones seems silly to me, but then 100-storey skyscrapers seem silly to me as it is; building tall buildings is no substitute for a lower population-density which is the luxury I enjoy living with.

Also - Americans keep going on about "freedom"; but in reality lack the freedom you would expect from such a rich nation. Where are the freedoms for:
  • David Hicks - Australian resident held without trial for over 5 years in inhumane conditions.
  • The West Memphis Three - Three Lower-class people fingered by police and convicted for the bizarre triple homicide, without tangible evidence and convicted through corrupt and unfair trials.
  • Dog The Bounty Hunter - convicted murderer, arrested and given over to Mexican authorities for the apprehension of Andrew Luster - a convicted serial rapist, at the time one of the American FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives, despite never receiving the bounty.
  • Prayer banned in schools.
  • No universal healthcare.
  • Amung the highest drug, hiv, homeless, poverty and homicide rates in a wealthy developed country.
  • National minimum wage not increased for 8 years, people living off it forced to live below the poverty line.
Freedom indeed, how about building a "freedom tower" once you actually hold freedom?

Yeah, those do suck. Prayer isn't actually banned in public schools though, just mandating it is. My best friend during middle school was Muslim and they allowed him a room to pray. Christians I'd assume are allowed it's just that they don't usually pray at school since there aren't set times for it like in Islam.

ToxicArtichoke - January 22, 2007 02:24 PM (GMT)
yeahhhh the Freedom Tower looks 110% retarded. Replacing two towers with one skinny ass, tall ass, pompous ass tall tower. What are they thinking? It's not even going to appeasingly restore the Manhattan skyline. Psha! Hate it! <_<

buckfush00 - January 22, 2007 11:28 PM (GMT)
does anyone know who the one person is who descided to rebuild?

ToxicArtichoke - January 23, 2007 10:07 PM (GMT)
Daniel Libeskin. He's a Polish-American architect most renowned for his designs for museums. . .

of course Larry Silverstien's greedy ass is gonna take all the acclaim for it though. . .

and then of course, like MOST of the skyscrapers that make up the Manhattan skyline, there will be a Japanese architectural genius behind it all. . .who will get no recognition <_<

buckfush00 - January 24, 2007 11:45 PM (GMT)
yea, I knew silverstein had to be doing sometihing on it..

Don't know who libeskin is though, and ya, there will probly be many people who don't get credit for helping..

ToxicArtichoke - January 25, 2007 02:29 AM (GMT)
yeah the freedom tower and surrounding glass buildings look like skycraper churches. you can take that any kind of metaphoric way you like.

But yeah that freedom tower is straight up U-G-L-Y

buckfush00 - January 25, 2007 04:40 PM (GMT)
Seriously, the WTC were just enourmous grey rectangles, with a cable antennae on one tower, but they look a hecka-lot better than the Freedom tower.

buckfush00 - February 8, 2007 02:58 AM (GMT)
Dang, Cupid, my dad always says your signature.

"Be alert. The world needs more lerts."

Either you're my dad, or its a darn small world.

illeagalhunter - February 8, 2007 05:53 AM (GMT)
the should put a target on the thing as all they are doing is tempting fait

Hazel - February 8, 2007 06:02 AM (GMT)
That is soooo phallic.

Infinite - February 10, 2007 07:21 PM (GMT)
Even though it's probably unlikely it would happen a second time, I would be afraid to ever step foot in a building owned by Larry Silverstein.
