Yeah, yeah,I hope they'll take that grammy :bounce:
invisible man - December 8, 2005 04:55 PM (GMT)
It's great to hear that she's nominated again!
But I must confess that the grammys turned out to be totally senseless after nominating mariah carey for eight awards! <_<
Are they crazy?

lol What do you have against Mariah, she have a great voice
Stine - December 8, 2005 05:03 PM (GMT)
Yeah I don't really have any respect for the Grammys either, after seeing that Hollaback Girl was nominated for "Song of the year"
invisible man - December 8, 2005 05:07 PM (GMT)
I'm sorry, maybe I shouldn't say that but  it's my opinion
This year she went so often on stage without singing live, it was always playback!
And the voice is not everything, I know she writes her songs and produces them by herself, but I don't like her lyrics or the way her songs were produced. I just think that she doesn't deserve eight grammy nominations for that work.
I respect her as a hard working woman in this buisness, but there are so many other artists that made wonderful music in the last year, that shows me that the grammy's are just giving the grammy's to the big selling acts and that's not fair.

hey , why do you hate Gwen Stefani ? I kinda like her.
But hey, everyone has their opinion. :P
Stine - December 8, 2005 05:16 PM (GMT)
I also like Gwen, but not her newer stuff - And I definitely don't think that Hollaback Girl qualifies as the best song of the year. But it's not like I hate her or anything.
sybillecutey - December 8, 2005 05:19 PM (GMT)
I see. Yeah, I don't think Hollaback girl should have neen nominated. I didn't even like it in the beginning, but they kept playing it sooooo much on mtv, that I guess it just grew on me.lol.
Louise - December 9, 2005 12:24 AM (GMT)
i like the hollaback girl remix with joe budden, but i don't think it should've been nominated either...and btw invisible man...i COMPLETELY agree about mariah (and another thing...when's she gonna decide whether she's black or white? lol  )

I don't know why anyone has anything against Mariah recieving 8 awards; she's an incredible artist, with a remarkable voice. I'm a die hard Lauryn fan, but you all must acknowledge, Lauryn has no where near as good of a voice compared to Mariah. Now talking about lyrics and profundity, Lauryn takes the award by far more depth than Mariah will. As to Lauryn being nominated, I'm just extremely ecstatic, I'm glad her talent is still being ackowldged, and she's proving the critiques wrong when they said she was over. Just think about it, compared to her other music, the John Legend song was mediocre. So when her own studio album comes out, she'll have another episode of 1998, or even bigger! Go Lauryn!
invisible man - December 9, 2005 12:50 PM (GMT)
When it somes to the voice I stoped to compare between artists, cause voices are soooooooooooo different. You can't compare a lauuryn hill with a mariah or for example mariah carey with Mary J. Blige. Normally, you can't even compare one artist with another. All I can say is that I like lauryns music, her lyrics and her talent and I don't like anything about mariah carey eycept that she's pretty funny in my eyes. But I would never compare the two of them. ^_^

You might not like Mariah, but none of you all cannot deny she has an incredible voice.

I agree with this
sybillecutey - December 9, 2005 07:09 PM (GMT)
Mariah can hit high notes, but the voice itself is not beautiful at all. That's just my opinion. Lauryn's voice is much more beautiful.

I wanted to say this since the 1st post about Mariah, but I just couldn't express it properly - Thanks for doing it for me, Sybille :D I just don't enjoy listening to her at all, even tho' her voice is technically good - Her voice doesn't do anything for me.
LaurynINSPIRED - December 10, 2005 04:07 AM (GMT)
Lauryn has a more soulfal voice, but Mariah's voice is just one that's exceptional, well for me. Whenever she does those high notes, they give me chills. Her music is some what superficial, but if you listen to her old music, like her first few albums, you'll become a fan.
pmorns - December 10, 2005 06:31 AM (GMT)
mariah has 2 voices. any of you's heard that song 'i can make it through the rain???' it sounds like a duet. But that stevie/aisha song is mean az i hope they get one
Glenn - December 10, 2005 04:27 PM (GMT)
I don't like mariah... I don't like the way she sings I don't like her music and I don't like her diva attitude!
btw I hope lauryn will win at the grammy's that would be great :D

"Baby if you give it to me,I'll give it to you,I know what you want..." :whisle:
Stine - December 20, 2005 09:52 PM (GMT)
...You know I got it, baby if you give it to me, I'll give it to you, as long as you want, you know I got it :winkwink:
I hate this song, but it really goes to your brain for some reason.
giovanna - December 30, 2005 11:41 PM (GMT)
I used to like Mariah Carey's voice a lot, but I think she has not got THAT much soul in her voice (but I still used to think it was amasing, but there is a difference between having soul in your voice and having skills I think)and it seems to have lost even more soul and become even more commercial over time to the present, I think this may be because she has become very successful and may rely on material things, which I believe can cover up true expression of the soul, I think it is sad, and I don't wnat to be judgemental, but Lauryn Hill, I believe is one of the few artists who has not let success rule her life and cover her up.
pmorns - January 1, 2006 01:27 AM (GMT)
on the topic. (after talking bout mariah for 17 pages ) I dont think cater to you would really have a go at the grammy but so amazing, how will I know and if this world were mine are really good songs. its hard to tell who will get it and although i hope (so hoping) John Legend and Lauryn get it, one of the two songs off the tribute album i think might get it. if i had to choose it would be ms keys!!! :D

Lauryn and Mariah are two very different artists - both are GREAT in my opinion.
On Mariah: The voice is superb. But the problem is, she doesn't use it in the way that a lot of people would like her to. Her transformation from pop ballads to RnB/Hip-Hop influenced songs sort of changed her voice. What you now hear is her "breathy" or airy type voice, which is where most of the criticism comes in. No doubt that when she belts out a song or hits some insanely high note, most people love her. But when she resorts to her "breathy" vocals, that is where she loses a lot of her audience. Still, a lot of her fans, including me, love the airy voice. It is her intention to use it that way, to contrast her power voice to her soft and sensual voice (evident in songs like Through the Rain). Still, its all subjective and I don't look down on anyone who doesn't like Mariah. Most people can still recognize though that she has (or had) a great voice, particularly her range capabilities.
Oh and whoever mentioned "when's she gonna decide whether she's black or white?" Mariah is biracial - her father was black and her mother is white (although I'm sure you knew that). She doesn't have to "decide," nor should anyone force her to. She is who she is. (Sorry if you were being sarcastic though, it's difficult to tell over the Internet! Still, I thought I'd clear things up.)
P.S. - Good luck to John Legend/Lauryn and Mariah at the Grammys. I love them ALL!
Louise - January 27, 2006 09:05 AM (GMT)
yeah i was being sarcastic (and I know she's biracial), what I meant was that she seems to play on her 'blackness' when she thinks it's fashionable and will boost her record sales....so I meant in a purely musical sense, not that she has to be black OR white in her life. Sorry if i offended u in any way, that wasn't intended.
