Fugees Take It Easy

Trio's reunion single to hit stores in three weeks

It's been nine years since the Fugees -- Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel -- released the groundbreaking, Grammy-snatching The Score. Going down separate paths to pursue solo projects -- Pras found fame with Ghetto Superstar, Hill would win another five Grammy's for 1998's The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and Clef released five solo albums -- the Fugees left fans hanging. Now, according to Wyclef, "Everybody that's been holding their breath should start letting their breaths go."

Currently back in the studio recording The Score's long-awaited follow-up, the hip-hop/reggae trio has already begun to lay down tracks and will release their first single, "Take It Easy," in three weeks, according to Wyclef.

"You've got three individuals that have grown musically," he says of the reunion. "But we're always on the same page -- that's the magic of the Fugees. The Fugees is a unique situation, the real marriage of the hood and the suburbs together. It's always exciting."

For their hip-hop-heavy third studio album, the Fugees are returning to an old-school street vibe reminiscent of their earliest recordings. "Our first record that blew up in New York City was called 'Mona Lisa/Nappy Heads,'" Wyclef says. "It's like we're going back to the core of where we come from. It's that record, the minute it comes on, you be like, 'Oh, that's what I've been missing!'"

According to Wyclef -- who is also simultaneously working on a sequel to his 1997 solo effort, The Carnival, which will feature the return of all the album's original characters -- the Fugees will "definitely" hit the road for a tour next summer.

Wyclef & Praz confirm no album soon.

Ok Praz was JUST on the Wendy Williams show and she read him the article that was posted on here about the new Fugees single being released in three weeks and he said he had no idea about it. He also said there was no Fugees material set to be released anytime soon and that they are all just "vibing" right now. Then Wycelf called in and said the same thing. They both said the article was aboslutely wrong.

Wendy asked a lot of questions about Lauryn and I was able to remember a few details that could be news:

1. Lauryn DOES ask to be called Ms. Hill and they both do call her it
2. Wycelf produced the new John Legend and Lauryn Hill single.
3. Praz and Clef are over their problems completely
4. Praz says that he and Wycelf DO get along with Rohan and they said hes a really nice guy
5. Lauryn IS working on a solo album right now

I was wondering if that means that we still have to wait for Lauryn's new album and I'm sorry to say it,but I'd prefer Lauryn new album..fugees can wait...I don't know..I was pretty much sure that this will be right time to listen to Lauryn's new album,I was pretty much sure of the date of october and now I don't know what to think.......maybe it's better wait and see what will happen...

Yeah I know what you mean - I'm also more excited about Lauryn's upcoming album than Fugees'! And what worries me the most, is the part about the Fugees touring next summer... I want Lauryn to tour! By herself!

well..me too....but I was thinking that maybe a tour with the Fugees is better than no tour at all,even if I think that with the new album there will be a tour for sure....What I really hope right now is that the album will drop the same!! :D

Hey lboogie - I've edited the post, read it again! I guess we have nothing to worry about then... I hope the L album will drop soon, followed by a looong tour (Where she concentrates esp. about Europe :) ) But a tour with Fugees would've been great tho, don't you think?

well I really have to say that I'd like seeing a Fugees show,but after seeing Lauryn this summer I really want something new about her..a new album....and to tell the truth I've always thought that the new about fugees new single was wrong because Ms.Hill is doing her own work,she has no time for the Fugees and I think the guys treated her very bad in the past and now she doesn't know what to do about the possibility of a reunion....I'm happy to know that there's an album coming out!!!!

a lauryn tour... a fugees tour.. it's all fine by me... anything lauryn anything would be great.

to see Lauryn solo would be AMAZING!, don't get me wrong, I'm so upset I missed the London show this summer...but to see the Fugees live again would be incredible just because I thought it would never happen again. The BET show was incredible, and when I saw them at Wembley in 1998, it's a night I will NEVER forget. Lauryn's concert for Miseducation was also, obviously, incredible, but I would love to see the Fugees back together!

I was at the Cactusfestival this year for lauryn and it was great I'll never every forget it... I prefer the lauryn tour and the lauryn cd...but I also like the fugees

TOTALLY UNOFFICIAL,but I heard that Lauryn's new solo album will drop in october,like The Miseducation;and then this winter the Fugess will work on their new album that will drop at the end of summer2006....I know that probably this is not true,but in Italy we say hope never dies!

That was written in an italian music magazine,but I repeat that is unofficial so it can be true,but it can also be wrong..the only thing we can do right now is hoping..and waiting

I hope that the people from the magazine are right.... that would be great. But again I don't think there will be an album soon

I read on another forum that her single has been leaked and will be hitting the airwaves very soon.,I don't know what "single" they're talking about.
But some deejay was talking about it on radio.
If a single is out, then I think the album is gonna be coming very soon.
Besides, you know how the record company really wants the album to be successful this time around,so in order for miss Hill to be nominated for award shows (and probably win which will mean huge record sales) they will have to release the album around oct ,nov.

again that would be great.. but still not any news from columbia..

This guy on the sonyforum who seems to be an insider (he was the first one to break the news about the Trace mag interview),said that a friend who works at columbia called him and told them that Columbia has just received Lauryn's project (the cd) and they're completely behind her,they said the album is great and it's going to be better than miseducation !
But the release date is being kept hush hush ( which means they're not at liberty to reveal it).
But anyway ,at least we know for sure that the record company is totally behind Lauryn and they love it so it's all good.
It only a matter of time.
I can wait ! ( I just made a cd of tons of Lauryn stuff ). :P

Of course she sounds nothing like L but it seems that this particular song she did with Damian Marley, her rapping sounds like Lauryn's.

I just knew it was too good to be true... But I'm glad there's so much hype about her right now, that must mean that something's on its way :) I'm really excited about this new album - I just hope we won't be dissapointed. Can you imagine if the album was really horrible, lol?

It could happend, especially if she had some really bad producers and songwriters to work with... I don't doubt her talent for a second, but other people might influence the album. It has happend plenty of times, that an artist releases an album that they aren't pleased with. But we're talking about Lauryn Hill here - She probably wouldn't allow an album less than brilliant to get released ;)

I think that after all the legal problems she had with johari and tejumold 6years ago she will probably produce it and I also think that she want everything perfect so...but you've scared me telling that,now I can't stop thinking about a horrible album...

Ps.Glen I suppose that Nas collaboration is old..it seems Nas old style..I wouldn't be afraid just listening to it...
