Lauryn was only 30 minutes late so that was ok I don¡¦t think any one really noticed. First some bloke came on stage he seemed to be doing the sound check this was a bad sign. The band the started playing for about 5 mins then there she was Ms Lauryn Hill, the must be nearly sold out crowed went mad. She then sang natty dread, but you couldn¡¦t hear her I was watching her she was obviously very excited she was dancing and smiling. When he finished the song she asked if we could hear her we were all like no!!! Then she started lost ones, she sang the first verse then went back into natty dread. The band was way too loud and I have to say her voice has definitely worsenedƒ¼. She then sang a unrecognisable version of final hour. Then Ex Factor which was beautiful I definitely think slow songs are best for her voice. She then did a bad version of Zion I was disappointed because none of the crowed knew what she was singing. People then started walking out. Then there was silence and a mix of cheers and unfortunately boos. Then she said ¡§I want to sing something slow even though my voice is fucked¡¨ She then sang the first time I saw your face this was awesome. The crowed then started enjoying the show.
She later sang some Fugees classics, how many mics, fugeela, zealots and ready or not the crowed seemed to love these. She and the band then left the stage to great applause. Then they came back and she sang Killing me softly which the fans loved, even though her voice was worse than ever. Then she said im going to sing something new Loose Myself, not many people knew it but they seemed to like it. She then said ¡§Shull we do 1 more. We¡¦ll do 2 more¡¨ She then sang everything Is everything, in the morning and Doo wopp which by this time the crowed was up out there seats and dancing.

Unfortunately I have to say the gig was a big disappointment. The worst part for me was when a older woman behind me was telling her young kids she aint in her right mind, because they were crying with disappointment. She then kept shouting turn the music down and why can¡¦t she sing. It was horrible and after ex factor she and the crying kids left, like many others.
I honestly think she can still make a great album and possibly tour but she needs to look after her voice and do sound checks.

Lauryn, Lauryn, Lauryn... I'm gonna hire a vocal trainer for her, seriously. She needs to do something about that voice.

Didn't she sing any of the newer songs? I Had To Walk, Conformed To Love, etc.? And what about songs from Unplugged?

i think her voice is still there but i think the band plays to loud and to fast for her so she shouts.

Great Review from Maximo for fugeeonline:

It is really weird how the press could even dare to call Ms Lauryn Hills performance a failure.. press which i can honestly say is inconsistent with the opinion of the majority of fans who waited around after the concert and were still buzzing from Ms Hills performance. A very small minority of fans walked out of the show, this aspect is true. However as i looked around at the end of the show the Apollo was still jam packed.

Ms Hill true to form arrived to the concert late, but i expected this and the introduction that the band created although long was absolutely spectacular.Initially Lauryn tried to hide behind the drums before she walked on stage, but the crowd could all see her straight away and the floor absolutely erupted, prompting Lauryn to show her face.

The opening and a number of the other early songs was truly a disappointment. I say this as a huge fan, which is why it is difficult to say. The songs were messy and it was difficult to hear Lauryn over the band, also the beats were played quite fast and were almost unrecognizable. At this point i found myself looking around the Apollo theatre to gauge the fans reaction and it looked like many fans were disappointed and confused. There was definitely a lack of connection. It almost felt like i was still waiting for Lauryn to arrive...

And then all of a sudden Lauryn turned up. The turning point of the show was when Lauryn sang "The first time ever i saw your face" when her voice really shone, it was like two different performers after this song!!Lauryn took my breath away. Before the song Lauryn had said that she shouldn't really sing this song with her voice in this condition, but i am so glad she did. From this point on Lauryn absolutely killed it. The crowd got involved the quality of the songs improved dramatically.

From then on "lose myself", "ready or not", "killing me softly", "everything is everything", "dat thing"," ex factor", "will you still love me tomorrow" and a few others were performed better than anybody else in the industry could have delivered them.I say that with no hesitation.. she was THAT good. From" the first time ever i saw your face"the momentum of the concert completely changed which was easily carried through to the end of the show, due to the strength and quality of these following performances which meant that Ms Hill had now won the fans over and created a tingling and exciting energy in the crowd.

So yes it is true that Ms Hills voice was croaky, she turned up late, and early on the concert was uncomfortable as the fans looked almost confused. However during the course of this concert Ms Hill arrived; her voice got stronger, she made the crowd fall in love with her all over again after a ten years absence and all with a beautiful smile on her face, a great energy and enthusiasm and with the presence of a true performer.

Early on in the concert Lauryn expressed that she viewed the tour as a stage of rehabilitation. Although not particularly qualified i would say that Ms Hill is doing rather well

Bring on a new album..

And in response to Lauryn's question which she posed to the crowd " will you still love me tomorrow"a question which she said was particularly relevant and held huge significance. The answer Ms Hill is a resound Yes!!
