Title: Wanna Be Lyrics
Louise - April 5, 2006 10:22 AM (GMT)
Ok guys, this is the best I could do so far, let me know if you think i've got anything wrong...
WANNA BE
L: Can it be I stayed away too long?
Clef: Listen, you gotta put me on, put me on
L: Did I leave your mind when I was gone?
Clef: Ain’t nothing like hip-hop music
L: Well it’s not my thing to try to get back
Clef: Listen, you gotta put me on, put me on
L: But this time let me tell you where I’m at
(Background – Clef: Dirty Cash? Pras: What’s up baby?)
CHORUS
L: Said I wanna be where you are, oh oh
(Clef: From the Booga Basement to this!)
Everywhere you are, oh uh oh
(Clef: Can I get a ?soul clap?)
I gotta be where you are, oh oh
(Clef: Can I get a ?soul clap?)
Everywhere you are, oh uh oh.
(Clef: Can I get a ?soul clap?)
Clef: Everybody got a brother that rap, a sister that sing
A cousin that sling, an uncle upstate, time in the pen.
Before the block, on with the cops, farmers with crops,
Shovels in their hands, screaming legalise the Peter Tosh.
They even got ??? hot cops, follow me ???? ?????
Keep a camcorder just in case they wanna frame the author.
This caught you off guard, this verse is unexpected
Listen, like when I rhymed on Big Pun’s records. (Listen)
I got a swagger that cut any rapper, mind over matter,
Lyrical dagger like alcohol I’m bad for your liver. (Clef!)
Quiver, shiver, body temperature, get found in Hudson River.
Deliver a message to your mum you won’t be coming over.
And the runner becomes the gunner, the gunner becomes the hunter,
The hunter becomes the hunted on America’s Most Wanted.
I reminisce; had no cash for the mall, but excited tonight
Cos’ we’re the opening act for Biggie Smalls.
CHORUS
L: Yo, yo, yo…
We entered into hip hop, we were young, gifted and boundless.
Attracted to the freedom, the courage, power, profoundness.
We had our pretensions, dissentions, conventions.
But there was room to learn, we were open to the challenge.
Then came the fame, money, notoriety, hypocrisy and anxiety
Most of us suffered quietly, from the PR to ER
The freedom got detoured, the truth turned to folklores
The youth turned to coke for
Escape from reality, afraid of exposure, pride, denied closure
Did what they told ya, agendas and egos began to live through us.
They started to take what they were supposed to give to us.
Distorted dynamics, made the egos gigantic.
Emotional artists got bought, sold and damaged.
Black disadvantaged, no facts, acts mismanaged.
Bad contracts, the status taken, ?land back? demanded.
CHORUS
Pras:
Yo it’s the most ?brunted/blunted?, yeah the most wanted.
House of Fugees stay the most haunted.
Guys and dolls jump right on it.
Ten years later, it ain’t ironic.
Straight sixteens, up da spleens,
Triple beam, like Sinatra, Davis and Dean.
Everything in between if you know what I mean.
Wanna be where you are, it’s the American dream.
But I was often told I was off my road
Never sold my soul for the glitter of gold.
Let the truth be told, I made the mould.
23 yrs old, 20 million sold.
It be classic man, like spaghetti westerns
Blackberry style, always texting.
Bombing on your dial, Funkmaster flexing
It’s the raw hip-hop to keep’em guessing.
L:
I wanna be, I wanna be, ooooh, yeah yeah yeah
I gotta be, I gotta be, yeah yeah
I wanna be, I wanna be, oooooh, hey hey baby
I gotta be, I gotta be, yeah yeah
CHORUS
Louise - April 5, 2006 10:50 AM (GMT)
I love the fact that L's starting to talk about what happened with the Fugees in her lyrics...
and, can someone please explain to me wtf Pras is going on about...again??
Louise - April 5, 2006 11:56 AM (GMT)
the only thing i've noticed about these tracks is that the chorus and the subject matter of the verses are completely different. Not so much with Take it Easy, but with Foxy and Wanna Be....Lauryn and Clef are rapping about really interesting stuff, but the chorus has got NOTHING to do with what they're saying.
LostOnes - April 5, 2006 12:17 PM (GMT)
I didn't know how hot L's verse was until i read the lyrics.
and i agree about the chorus and verses. lol, maybe she's singing about wanting to be with Pras and Clef again?
Louise - April 5, 2006 04:07 PM (GMT)
Louise - April 5, 2006 04:19 PM (GMT)
i changed the bit in L's verse...i think it's 'the youth turned to coke for escape from reality' but i'm not sure. I'm scared to say it's that tho because of all the stupid drugs rumours.
Glenn - April 5, 2006 05:04 PM (GMT)
thanks Louise for the lyrics!!
sybillecutey - April 5, 2006 05:16 PM (GMT)
Poor Pras.
I wonder what he has instead of a brain ?> :argh:

LostOnes - April 5, 2006 09:37 PM (GMT)
Not to get into the whole, 'Is the Myspace real or not', but why has she got a fan recording of 'One/Since I Found A New Love' that we have all already heard before, if she is the real Ms. Hill?
(lol, don't answer, rhetorical question, i'm just thinking out loud)

Hmm.
I'm going to take a dive and say i think this is really L's myspace.
And yeah, she's already said it, but i think it's run with her asistents help as well.

The recording that was up there (it's been taken down) was obviously a fan recording. That means that either her or her assistents must have been searching the forums (this one, fugeesonline or runboard).

I def think that she lookks for her old recordings online.
That's why she keeps recycling them, just like she did with Wannabe.

Louise - April 6, 2006 09:18 AM (GMT)
you know what....i still don't believe it's her....looking at the lyrics that u posted sybille, it's just the lyrics that i posted in this topic slightly changed, and half of them I only guessed cos i couldn't hear them properly.
I'm not trying to be negative, i could be wrong...but it's just a gut feeling...for example, 'Ms. Hill' missed a part off the second line of Clef's verse, and what are 'hip hop cups'??? surely it's 'hip hop cops'...and the hook at the end has been completely cut and paste from my lyrics, the same number of 'o's in the ooooohs and i think the 'yeah yeah yeah' at the end of the first line is wrong when i listen to the song back now.
I know it sounds petty, but i just think something's not right about this myspace page...like i said, i hope i'm wrong.

I don't believe it's L, but I asked her why the Fugees are only using cheap synthesizer tunes in their music now. ^_^
I'm curious about the answer. It's like waiting for the answer of an old gipsy woman that can look into the future

Exactly, she hates that, look what she wrote me one day :
Sybille you sent a link of your page and those message boards to my assistant Sharien. Why is it that you write to Sharien authentically, and on this page you seem to believe my authenticty. But when Sharien and I visited your message boards an hour ago, on every one you blamed me for false duplicity.
You cannot build a relationship or interact with a person based on false approaches. It is one of the things I most distrust.

Louise I agree with you! I also think the MySpace Lauryn copied "your" lyrics. It's definitely a member of the forum.

I just wish it's not the real lauryn, cause her behaviour on this Myspace page is as strange as in public.
She's just a human being not a prphet, we shouldn't give too much attention to that site. For me it was just fun from day one (you should know me now I 'm always joking:lol: ). I guess everything is just fun for me except lauryns music, that's real and that's why I respect her. I can't respect the picture of a person on a myspace page so we should stay focused on her music. The sad thing is everything she released with the fugees since "take it easy" is just lame and average. So sad, so sad!

I think the person who created the my space page is the guy terrance craft from run board. If you guys noticed he did not start posting here until the sudden appearance of the myspace page. He wanted to make sure everyone was aware of it. He also seems to think he has some inside track to Ms. Hills mind. My opinion of course.
