Title: 8 Wins To Secure Safety

Lee F - February 1, 2008 10:43 AM (GMT)
Nigel Jemson reckons Ilkeston have to win half of their remaining games to guarantee their UniBond Premier Division status.

The Robins have 15 league games left to play, including tomorrow's important clash with Whitby Town at the New Manor Ground.

With their fate in their own hands, boss Jemson is urging his players to get the job done themselves rather than rely on others.

"Every game between now and the end of the season is important. We have 45 points to play for and if we win half of the games we will stay up, no doubt about it," he said.

"But we are not looking at that. We have to win one game at a time rather than looking at the bigger picture.

"Things are still not going for us and that was shown at Leek on Tuesday (where Ilkeston drew 1-1) when their keeper should have been sent off but wasn't.

"They say luck evens itself out over the course of the season so if that's the case we ought to be due some between now and the end of the season."

After the midweek point in Staffordshire, Jemson is keen to take maximum points against a Whitby team also in the bottom half of the table.

"If we were to beat them then it would make the point at Leek not look a bad one at all," he said.

"People say we needed to win a Leek but for me the important thing was not to lose so we maintained the gap between us and them."

Ilkeston brought in Leicester City's Carl Pentney on a month's loan to play in goal at Leek because of the unavailability of James Lindley.

"Jimmy has got some personal problems so he wants to take a break from football and I support him in that," he said.

"Carl's a full-time pro who's working on his game day in, day out, so I'm sure he won't let anyone down."

Barry Woolley, Colin Hunter and Adam Lee are set to miss out against Whitby through injury, while Justin Walker is suspended.
