Capello slams underperforming Ronaldo

Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello has hit out at the team's former Brazilian striker Ronaldo, insisting he never played at 100 percent for the Spanish side.

"Ronaldo was never 100 percent," said Capello Saturday.

"We were convinced he would return to what he was before but we never got to that point."

Ronaldo, who arrived in Spain in 2002 from Inter Milan, this week returned to Italy, signing with AC Milan.

Capello said he did not want to continue a war of words with Ronaldo, who said at his official transfer to AC Milan Friday, that he wanted to thank all the coaches at Real Madrid "except one".

"I like people who say things to your face. What they say afterwards has no importance for me," said Capello, who is a former AC Milan manager himself.

Ronaldo fell out of favour with Capello this season, and after suffering calf and ankle injuries, spent most of his time on the bench.

Capello added: "I wish him good luck and as much success as possible. I hope for world football that Ronaldo returns."
