I having to do some research so was wondering:-

If you wnt to a museum and looked at archaeology objects do you think artefacts by themselves are boring and need interactives or reconstructions or do you think objects in a museum are the most important thing?

Basically how can archaeology be more interesting in museums for people?

1. it depends which age group your targeting
2. it depends which artifacts :D

reconstructions and interactions are the best ways to engage someone becuase they usually convey the story and reasons behind the artifact otherwise its all meaningless....

usually in museums ,particularly in archaeology, its a display of wall with a huge essay of explanation next to it which we as visitors can either choose to read or not.... most of the time we choose not to

therfore information must be forced upon us in the way of reconstructions, diagrams and narrators which explain for our benefit what everything is about.. :D we are all quite lazy when it comes to learning

in my local museum there is like a pit of sand and dirt in the middle of one of the floors... its set out exactly like an excavation and children especially can dig through it... obviously the staff have planted certain pieces of pot and artifacts in the dirt and once the children have found them they can identify them

this i thought was one good idea

i think intereactive stuff makes things more interesting (but i have a *very* short attention span haha). It makes things seem more interesting so you can relate to them more. Hope thats some help to you :)
