Preseason begins on 7 July

With the international players, including Raúl González, preparing with their national teams, the second Real Madrid captain met with Club Vice President, Emilio Butragueño, today and decided that those team members not participating in the German World Cup will return to training on 7 July. However, this date is subject to change due to the electoral process, a change in coaching staff, or other variables. Director of Football, Benito Floro, also took part in the meeting.

The day the 2006-07 preseason will begin has been determined. According to the agreement reached by Vice President, Emilio Butragueño, and the team's second captian, José Mª Gutiérrez ‘Guti’, those players that were not called up by their national teams to play in this summer's World Cup will return to training on Friday, 7 July. This date is subject to change due to the Club's electoral process in seeking a new President, as well as any changes to the coaching staff. All player activity will stop on 19 May and recommence the first week of July. The dates the internationals return to Real Madrid depends on how their respective teams fare in the final rounds of the competition.
