Arsenal’s Study Support Centre, situated at Holloway School, recently welcomed Arsenal’s Spanish striker Jose Antonio Reyes, together with Arsenal and England Ladies captain, Faye White, through its doors for its Study Support Centre Award Ceremony.

Pupils aged between 10 and 12 years-old from eight Islington schools, who use the after-school Information and Computer Technology Club, met Jose Antonio and Faye and were presented with certificates for their participation in the Study Support Centre last term as well as recognition for those who had produced outstanding pieces of work — including best video using audio visual equipment and who had showed good attendance throughout the term.

While visiting the school, Jose Antonio and Faye also unveiled a plaque to mark the school’s new status as a specialist sports school.

Jose Antonio said: “It’s my first visit to the Arsenal Study Support Centre and I think it’s such a great place where the children can study and learn. It’s great that the Club has got involved in this scheme and I pleased that I have been able to share in the children’s success today.”

Study support is learning activity outside school hours which young people undertake voluntarily. Its aim is to improve the motivation of young people, increase their self-esteem, help them become more effective learners and above all, raise achievement.

Arsenal Study Support Centre opened fully to pupils in September 2000 and is part of the Playing for Success scheme whose aim is to complement the work pupils do in school time.

The centre, based in Holloway School, occupies a bright and well-equipped area with state of the art computer technology on the second floor of the school. The surroundings are decorated and inspired by Arsenal Football Club fostering a true sense of belonging to the Club for the pupils who use the centre.
