Al-Nasr 4-1 Real Madrid

The last match of the season was played in Saudi Arabia, and we had never traveled so far and yet felt so close to home. King Fahd Stadium gave Real Madrid one of the warmest welcomes ever seen, and the team paid back the kindness with a hard-fought match against a potent Al-Nasr outfit. While the hosts did carry the victory, the final score was what mattered the least.

Schuster joined in the festivities and tabbed an extremely offensive starting lineup for kick-off. The opponent, not just any Al-Nasr squad, but rather nearly an entire Saudi national team. Only three of it's eleven starters actually came from the side that finished fifth in the Saudi Premier League: Belal, Alhahri, and Almuteri. The reenforced team boasted stars like goalkeeper Aldiai, Eygpt-native Abdrabah, and the Iraqi Akram. While the home crowd hoped for a follow-up victory after seeing Al Ithad fend off Manchester United 3-2 last week, it was Real Madrid who took early control on Tuesday.

The Madridistas' first opportunities came of the boots of Baptista, Robinho, and Sergio Ramos, who saw one strike hit the crossbar in the 20th minute. Al-Nasr remained cautiously defensive and rarely crossed the midfield line. They needed a spark, and as soon as Majed Abdullah set foot on the turf, they had found it. The already-reatired 48-year old, the best player in the history of Saudi football, put on a display of moves that wowed the crowd. Schuster made his first wave of changes and Dudek, Salgado, Sneijder, and Van Nistelrooy entered the playing field. The Whites continued to pour it on, but there was no finding the back of the net.

SWEALTERING HEAT BUT A SHOWER OF GOALS
There was nothing at stake, but neither side wanted to concede victory, not even Schuster's carrousel of players who came in in the second half. Nothing changed despite an entirely new lineup, only this time it was Sneijder setting the tempo. And then all of a sudden, an unexpected downpoor under the suffocating heat. Robben struck first following a brilliant assist by Higuaín. The match appeared to be under control, but in two frantic minutes Moath and Akram gave the hosts the lead. Krery extended it even further and the fans went wild. Real Madrid were tired, especially having played their least league match less than 48 hours earlier. Add the intense heat and the exhausting trip to the equation... And, of course, the dignity of a local side who wanted to close out this historic visit with a bang. Madrid never lowered their heads and played hard through the final whistle, and effort greatly appreciated by the crowd.
