Robinho: Madrid Deserve The Title
Robinho believes that Real Madrid are on the verge of winning the league title because they have been the best and most consistent team in the Spanish top flight this season.
The Brazilian was responding to criticism that Los Merengues are fortunate to still be in pole position after so many slip-ups had given their rivals chances to overtake.
Despite that, Madrid can clinch the title this weekend without playing if Villarreal do not win and Robinho is convinced that it will be a deserved award.
"Madrid are where we are because of the quality and the hard work of the team. We have shown that we are the best throughout the season. We are on the verge of winning the league because we deserve to," he said.
"We have remained consistent and have managed to win some vital games. Matches like the one at Racing served us well and allowed us to gain maximum points. Also, our solidity at home."
Winning the league without playing may dampen some of the celebrations, but Robinho is just keen to wrap up the title to end all the waiting.
"I would like to win it as soon as possible. I know that many of the fans would like to clinch it in the Bernabéu against Barcelona. I would certainly like to win and to celebrate with the supporters as soon as possible," he announced.
Iker Casillas has been hailed as one of the main reasons that Madrid have held on to top spot in so many games and Robinho agrees that he is one of the greatest. "For me, Iker is the best goalkeeper in the league and, possibly, the world," he added.
