Roberto Carlos: Real Madrid Will Win The Liga
Former Real Madrid defender Roberto Carlos feels that his old side will beat Barcelona to the Liga title - but warned that they must be careful en route to doing so...
Carlos has weighed in on the title race before, but with the gap back down at four points, he felt compelled to re-iterate his point.
The veteran Brazilian said, "I think that Real Madrid will be the champions because they seem to have the best run-in capabilities.
"They'll win it, I think, but they must move carefully.
"I recently visited Real Madrid's training ground. I spoke to them and told them that I missed them, but I'm happy in my new role in Turkey.
"Raul? He remains the best and must be respected. He's the symbol of Real Madrid. He has it all and I think he deserves to play for Spain. He's scoring a lot of goals and remains a key player.
"As for Robinho, I spoke to him and he's keen to continue growing and doing important things for Madrid. We need to give him a little time to regain the form that he showed earlier.
"I miss everyone, but at Fenerbahçe I'm trying my best and I've been treated very well. I can never go back to Madrid, so I won't mourn."
Fenerbahçe Hopes
The full-back went on to describe his new adventure in Turkey.
"Zico, our coach, likes to play good football," he explained.
"We're kind of like what Real Madrid are to the Spanish league. When teams came up against Madrid they played the match of their life, 110%. It's the same with Fenerbahçe.
"We're a great squad now and we have good players, but we can't win by 'names' alone.
"Can we progress in the Champions League? Maybe. It's a gradual process. You can imagine what it means in Turkey that we're in the quarter-finals after eliminating Sevilla.
"There's a real craze for it. Every match we played in Turkey, there were at least 60,000 people. The noise was incredible. People start singing two hours before kick-off.
"Hopefully we can win it, but it's an elusive title. We're not yet ready for it. We're among the eight best in Europe and getting to the top four would be a real achievement.
"The good thing is that we're playing without pressure and without obligation to win. We don't have the pressure of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester United... we're just in it, and we can be the surprise of the season."
