Arjen Robben is disappointed he was overlooked for the Netherlands' friendly against Austria on Wednesday after recovering from a left ankle injury.
The Real Madrid winger played 30 minutes Sunday as a substitute in the Spanish league on his return from five months out. But Dutch coach Marco van Basten left him out for the match against the European Championship co-host.
"I would have loved to play against Austria," Robben told Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad. "I am feeling fit ... It's a shame I cannot play now. This is the final match before our training camp starts in May."
Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy also missed out after undergoing ankle surgery last week, but Robin Van Persie was recalled following a five-month absence due to knee and hamstring injuries.
Van Basten still dropped Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt despite the squad being weakened by injuries.
Feyenoord goalkeeper Henk Timmer is likely to play his fifth international with regulars Edwin van der Sar of Manchester United and Maarten Stekelenburg of Ajax out.
AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf and Blackburn defender Andre Ooijer return from injuries, but PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Afellay is out with a nagging ankle problem that flared up last week.
Austria have won only one of their last 13 matches - against Ivory Coast in October - and recently lost 3-0 to Germany, with whom they were drawn in the same group at the June 7-29 Euro 2008.
"I was pleased with our recent performance," Austria coach Josef Hickersberger said. "So, there's no reason for me to change things too much. Also, the Netherlands are opponents who don't allow you to experiment."
Frankfurt midfielder Markus Weissenberger was recalled and is expected to play his 29th international, while defenders Ronald Gercaliu and Martin Hiden and midfielder Michael Moerz also return.
A few regulars are missing. Midfielder Andreas Ibertsberger and striker Sanel Kuljic were overlooked, while Rene Aufhauser is sidelined with a calf injury and Martin Stranzl is out after injuring his hip in training on Monday.
Several young players like Veli Kavlak, Erwin Hoffer and Andreas Dober will miss the game as they will play in Austria's under-21 team against Slovakia on Wednesday.
Austria will also play friendlies against Nigeria and Malta in May before taking on Croatia in their first Euro 2008 match on June 8.
