Fourteen straight

Real Madrid have won every home match since March

Real Madrid are on track to break another record. The Whites have won 14 straight games -in League and Champions League action- in the Santiago Bernabéu since 4 March, when they drew against Getafe.

Ever since a 1-1 draw against Getafe on 4 March, Madridistas have seen their team pull off win after win at the Santiago Bernabéu. Real Madrid notched their 14 straight home victory, and fifth this season, on Sunday. The home field advantage also played a crucial role in last year's quest for the League title.

The streak began win 2-0 win over Nàstic Tarragona. Then, after comfortable victories against Osasuna and Valencia, the Spanish capital witnessed two of the most spectacular matches in recent history. The first, a 3-2 win over Sevilla, followed by 4-3 win against Espanyol. All appeared lost at halftime of the latter, as the Whites headed to the dressing room down 1-3, but Higuaín's last minute strike -the third Madrid goal of the half- put an exclamation point on the turnaround. Deportivo Coruña were next to fall in the Spanish capital, and the ensuing victory over Mallorca completed a seven match sweep at home and handed the Whites the League title.

This year began the same way the last ended. Matchday 1 kicked off with a visit and defeat of cross-town rival Atletico Madrid. Three Andalusian sides then took their best punches and all were knocked out: Almería, Betis, and Recreativo Huelva. The last to fall were Deportivo Coruña. Real Madrid have enjoyed the same success in Champions League play. The two matches played thus far in the Santiago Bernabéu have ended in Merengue wins. The first, a 2-1 win against Werder Bremen, the second, a 4-2 drubbing of Olympiacos.
When all added up, a total of 14 straight wins. We have to wait a couple weeks to see if the 15th will fall -against Mallorca- as Schuster and company are on the road for the next two League matches prior to the League coming to another halt for international action.
