Real Madrid president arrested in New York airport blunder
Real Madrid president, Ramón Calderón, was detained at New York airport during the early hours of yesterday morning over a misunderstanding concerning his surname, which he shares with a man wanted by US police.
Mr Calderón, who was held up for more than two hours until the problem was sorted out, is on a private visit with his wife, who is a personal friend of Spanish Interior minister, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba.
Indeed, Mrs Calderón went so far as to call the minister, but his intervention was, in the end, not required, as the matter was quickly resolved, and the couple were allowed to leave the airport.
