Calderon Credits Fans For Comeback

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon was delighted with the way the fans backed the team's comeback from a goal down against Sevilla.

"We witnessed a thrilling match of football with all the necessary ingredients: excitement, goals, and good performances," Calderon told the club's official website.

"We won again. We are second and this hadn't happened in four years, seeing ourselves with a chance of winning the League.

"We overcame their first goal, and made a great comeback, going two ahead. This was because of the team, but also very specially thanks to our fans, which I would give a big fat ten.

"It was quite a spectacle to see how they jumped, shouted and supported the team, which is what they need right now. A big percentage of this victory is owed to the fans.

"The win was achieved against very tough, fast, and self-confident opponents. We knew they would make us suffer, but in the end we scored three goals against them. Now, we just need to continue enjoying the wins.

"If we keep winning, we might just raise the League trophy. We are now in a privileged position."

The press highlights the Whites' brilliant game and Guti's excellent performance

The match between Real Madrid and Sevilla didn't disappoint. The Bernabéu witnessed one of the best games of the season, in which the Whites soared after turning the score around. Today, the Spanish press describes the game as having been an "exhibition" and a "slam down of the gavel" by a "true Real Madrid." Guti's excellent performance is also highlighted. The playmaker showcased his quality and became the true architect of his team's comeback victory.

MARCA: "A display of excellent physical form and quality stock"
"Brilliant Madrid" are the two words chosen by Marca to describe Real Madrid's performance against Sevilla. The newspaper deems last night's "the best game of the season" and highlights Guti's phenomenal performance. "Guti was tremendous in the last half hour. The number '14' used all his skill and the crowd at the Bernabéu celebrated his display. Sevilla could do nothing to stop him and have now practically lost the League."

Marca also highlight Fabio Capello's system, which was key to the victory. "The Italian finally proved he is one of the best coaches in the world and gave a master lesson to Juande Ramos and his all-mighty Sevilla."

The journal also publishes an article on Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has become the new top scorer of the League after scoring two goals against the Andalusians.

AS: "Fit to win the League"
The front page of AS reads "State of euphoria," describing the moment Real Madrid are going through after defeating Juande Ramos' side. Juanma Trueba says "nothing can stop Real Madrid" and that their victory over Sevilla "maintains them in the race for the League title."

Pedro P. San Martín highlights Capello's good substitutions. "Capello was smart and brave. He took Raúl and Torres off, bringing Guti's genius onto the pitch and positioning Ramos on the right wing. They managed to defeat an excellent Sevilla side."

EL PAIS: "Unforgettable performance by Guti"
El País focus all their praise on the second captain. "Real Madrid defeated Sevilla in a quality display of the midfielder. Guti was incredible for 30 minutes and thrilled the crowd at the Bernabéu."

EL MUNDO: "The true Real Madrid"
In his article, Jesús Alcaide says Real Madrid "played their best game at the right time, when they faced a direct rival. They even turned around the score, enhancing the 'stage effect' of their victory." The excellent game at the Bernabéu had a bad start for the Whites after Maresca's goal, but Guti inspired Real Madrid after taking the pitch.

ABC: "Real Madrid's use of authority"
"Guti sparks an already thrilling game" is the headline on the front page of ABC. Both the midfielder's and the team's performances are praised in the sports section of the newspaper. "Real Madrid are a heavyweight team at this stage of the competition. They get rid of anyone that gets in their way."
