History:
Winter was orphaned at birth. Her parents had been deep in poverty, and couldn't bear bringing their child up in such an unprivileged environment. They made the social workers there promise to make sure Winter's birth name was kept, but there really was no problem with her new parents.
Just three months after arriving at the orphanage, Amory and Astin, a gay couple, decided on adopting a baby girl. Winter caught their eye as soon as they stepped foot in the place. She was the only baby there who wasn't crying, and she was the only one who made eye contact with the two. Not to mention, being two witches, they saw something in her that day that the muggles hadn't caught yet, luckilly. Her eyes did a simple change in color, and they felt immediately that their duty was to get her out of that place or risk revealing a helpless infant.
So they took her home. Growing up with lesbian parents was healthy for Winter. She learned to accept people's differences, mainly because her parents were openly gay, but also because she was quiet different herself. She expressed her individuality through her appearance, painting her nails black since the age of six. Later on, into her teenage years, she'd change the color of her eyes. To the muggles, she was simply wearing colored contacts, but the wizarding community knew what she was.
During her school year, she got better than passing grades in Transfiguration. She also did well in Astronomy, but everything else lagged a bit beacuse she put most of her energy into the two subjects. However, she still passed her seventh year with passing marks. Once she turned eighteen, she moved from her adoptive parent's house. It was hard, but she didn't move too far away in fear of losing contact with them.
Merely seven years after she graduated, she was offered a teaching position at Hogwarts, which she took graciously. She had been studying up even further in Transfiguaration skills, and had mastered becoming an animagi, taking on the form of a great, black cat. So, without so much as double thinking it, she moved her most of her belongings back to the old school and took up the position of Transfiguration Professor.
