History:

Andromeda, in the beginning of her life, was really no different than her sisters, even worse perhaps. She spat on Muggleborns and thought of dirt as better than half-breeds. Upon first coming to Hogwarts these views didn't change at all. She was sorted into Slytherin; no one had expected any different. For the first couple of years, she spent a good bit of time hanging around her older sister, Bellatrix', group, which consisted of a good number of present day deatheaters (Snape, Avery, and the Lestrange brothers to name a few). As her years in Hogwarts went on, though, she began to find friends elsewhere with some other people that her family didn't approve of. First it was just a hint of the friendliness that Bellatrix did not possess, but then it grew to the point where she inquired less and less of family history. By thirteen, she found herself the object of many of Bellatrix' taunts rather than a helper in distributing them Though, there was no hesitation to return each remark with a scathing one of her own and her group of friends was no less hateful and snobbish than Bella's. Andromeda and her friends made it very plain that Narcissa would not enjoy her first year at Hogwarts much either.

It was in her fifth year (that same year that she became a Slytherin prefect) that a certain Ravenclaw boy caught her eye; apparently she'd caught his as well. She'd caught a number of boys' eyes, though, being the prettiest and brightest of the three Black sisters that now attended Hogwarts. This one, though, there was something that drew her to him; perhaps it was the lack of everything her family (that she'd grown to dislike more and more) was. He was a downright slob, a Muggleborn, and actually a kind person. It wasn't long after she'd met him that she'd dropped all of the horrible snobbiness and begun to talk to him.

They dated for quite a while, and her mother had threatened her several times that she would be disowned if she married Ted Tonks. Despite all of the trouble she got for rebelling against her family's values, she loved them and struggled with making the decision. Having nearly lost Ted when she turned down his proposal at first. Her sisters had already wed with wealthy, pureblood men. The only consolation she had was confiding her troubles with her favourite cousin, Sirius; he seemed to be the only other member of the family that wasn't happy with the way everything happened.

Finally, she became a Tonks and was pregnant shortly after. The last letter she recieved from her mother was to tell her that her Aunt Walburga had blasted her off of the family tapestry and that she would not consider herself the mother of Andromeda Tonks.

Andromeda never forgot her family, though she grew to dislike them even more and even laughed when she heard Bellatrix had been sent to Azkaban. She spoke very little of them and avoided the young Nymphadora's questions about them. It aggrivated her even more that, for the short time the Aurors had been searching for those few escaping Death Eaters, when Bellatrix' picture would appear in the paper, even her little daughter would point and mistake the wanted pictures for her mother. A few of those same pictures held Sirius, though, and she could only hope that they were mistaken and hope that he would escape. Nymphadora grew older and wiser to Andromeda and finally Andromeda gave in to telling her the story behind her faimly history and about who these people were that littered the news stories.

Andromeda supported Nymphadora in nearly everything she did, not wanting herself to end up like her mother. She'd always been proud of Dora, doting especially over her gift of being a metamorphmagus. It frightened her more than anything, though, when she made the decision to become an auror. She worried often about it and could've very well fainted the day that Dora had brought home a man who she'd told Andromeda was a werewolf, but the little bits of the Black in Andromeda had been slipping away through the years and she learned to accept Remus as a member of the family. It helped greatly knowing that this particular werewolf had gained the trust and close friendship of Sirius when he'd still been alive. Due to this, she'd already had a loose friendship with what might very well become her son-in-law.

She could just imagine how angry those that used to be her family would be if they knew her daughter had hopes of marrying a half-breed. That made her ability to get through this a bit easier. Even so, she was less than supportive of Nymphadora's decision. A bit of her family's blood obsession still held her to a small dislike of half-breeds.

Personality:

Andromeda retains a bit of the self-centered nature from her childhood; though she really does care for other people beyond Ted and Dora, she prefers not to bother with going too out of her way to lend her help to those people.

She is often unforgiving and very unkind to anyone that might get on her bad side. Aside from this, Andromeda really is a kind person if one would take the time to get to know her. But she has a horrible anger problem. Though composure can be gained quickly in most situations, there are a few things that she will rage on about for a fairly long time. This goes along with her being terribly stubborn and having the knack for holding a life-long grudge.

She is very bright and often can even outwit her former-Ravenclaw husband.
