Title: Eating
Abigail Brown - January 2, 2007 11:23 PM (GMT)
Aby walked into the great hall. She had been in here only once before. Today it looked quite gloomy. Refelcting the weather outside ,raining. She walked up to the table and sat down for breakfast. She was very hungry and was lookign forward to meeting some new people, as a 1st year she didn't know anyone.
Samantha Peski - January 2, 2007 11:37 PM (GMT)
A sleepy Samantha entered the Great Hall, her eyelids sagging slightly. Slowly she approached the Gryffindor Table and sat down in what appeared to be a relatively empty area of the table. She had little interest to converse with others this morning; all she wanted was a slice or two of bacon and soem eggs.
Across from where she sat down was another girl who looked to be around the same age as she was. In fact, Samantha thought that she had seen this girl at her own sorting ceremony, though she was far from certain. In her current early morning mood and tiredness, everything seemed a bit hazy.
"Can you pass the bacon, please?" she mubled across the table, giving up on guessing the other's year. If nothing else happened this morning, Samantha planned to at least get a good breakfast while she was here.
Abigail Brown - January 2, 2007 11:50 PM (GMT)
Aby noticed another first year walk in a nd sit down acroos from her. Thsi girl asked for the bacon. Aby passed it to her and took some pancakes and saisage for herself. "Hi, I'm Aby." She said to the girl, hoping to at least learn her name.
Samantha Peski - January 3, 2007 12:01 AM (GMT)
"Thanks," was Samantha's muttered reply as she took a few slices of bacon and added it onto her own plate. She then grabbed her own fork, begining to scoop some of it into ehr mouth. It wasn't until she had finished off one or two of the slices that she heard the other's introduction.
"Oh," she replied, not quite sure what else to say. However, the first year did get the feeling that 'oh' was not a propper responce to the words of the other girl. So, with a silent sigh, she tried to think of something to add.
"Uh... Well... I mean, hi," she mumbled, looking down at her plate as a light pink spread onto ehr cheeks. Slowly, Samantha lifted her eyes and added,"I guess I'm Samantha."
Abigail Brown - January 3, 2007 12:15 AM (GMT)
"Hi, so..........you're a first year right?" Any asked as she began cutting her pancakes and began to eat them.
Samantha Peski - January 3, 2007 12:17 AM (GMT)
"Uh... Yeah, yeah, this is my first year," Samantha replied before shoving the last piece of bacon into her mouth. At least now, with ehr mouth full, she had an excuse not to add anything more to the 'conversation', if one could even call it that, between the two.
Abigail Brown - January 3, 2007 12:27 AM (GMT)
"yeah, I am too. Are you muggle born?" Aby asked after she finished chewing. She could tell the girl wasn't much of a conversationalist, but Aby still wnated to talk, she didn't have anyone else to talk to and nothign to do today. Aby had not slept well last night because of beign anxious for clases coming up, because of this she yawned. As she did so she put her hand over her mouth to stay polite with Samantha.
Samantha Peski - January 3, 2007 12:36 AM (GMT)
Samantha sighed, though she put on a smile as she glanced up to answer the other. After all, it was obvious enough that Aby was being pretty polite to her, and Samantha didn't want to appear rude before another housemate. At least, not right now.
"No. My parents both went here, too," she replied, ignoring the pinkish color of her cheeks.
Personally, Samantha felt somewhat inculted by this question; asking her if she was muggleborn! Then again, not all muggleborns were bad. Some were pretty smart. With a mental shrug, the first year decided to let this thought go, deciding that it didn't really matter that much.
After a few seconds, and the gathering some more bacon, Samantha decided to also add,"Oh, yeah. What about you?" Unfortunately, the question did not come out as 'smoothly' as she had hoped it would.
Abigail Brown - January 3, 2007 12:50 AM (GMT)
"Well, I am muggleborn .That's really why I was asking. I am tryign to find out what people think about people like me. I read in some books that some people don't like muggleborn. I thought it was absurd, but I was trying to find out if it was true." Aby said all of this in kind of a rush, but hoped that Samantha could understand, becasue she really didn't know if she could repeat it.
Samantha Peski - January 3, 2007 03:21 AM (GMT)
Whoa, what a mouth full. Even when Samantha wasn't this groggy she still could have easily been lost by the large amount of words crowded into such a quick little speech. Rubbing her eyes, as if to wake herself up, the first year took a few seconds to herself, trying to process all of these words and not get them all jumbled up.
"Muggle born, you say," thought Samantha aloud, hardly realizing that words were emerging from her mouth, "Sure are cheerful to be so. Almost as if..."
She stopped ehrself there, realising that her lips were moving and sound was coming from her mouth. Embarressed, once more, a heavy hugh of pink overclouded the already existing, yet fading, hugh.
"Sorry," Samantha added softly, "Didn't mean to insult." A quick pause and then,"So, I take it that you're pretty smart? Or talented? I mean, to be able to do magic when your parents can't?"
Abigail Brown - January 3, 2007 11:30 AM (GMT)
"Yeah. I guess you could say that. I foudn out about the magical world about five months ago. Since then I have been researching so I wouldn't look stupid compared to pure bloods." Aby said, hopingthis time it didn't seem like a lot to say.
Aby then picked up her fork and finished off her pancakes. The nshe began on her sausage. She had been hungry when she wcame down. Now she was almost too excited about having someone to talk to she could barely eat.
Samantha Peski - January 6, 2007 01:39 AM (GMT)
"Oh," replied Samantha, not sure what else to say. She supposed that maybe that was what many muggle borns did when they found out they were magic - wow, that was weird. Imagine going through life, not knowing that you are magic? Even just the thought of it made the little first year giggle.
"So I'm guessing you grew up as a muggle then..." she continued, trying to add more to the words to her previous responce, "So, uh..."
Samantha never did add anything more to the last statement, realising that all of her main questions about the muggling world were more offensive than not. And even though she still felt negatively towards the muggling world, this girl was not, in her oppinion, one of them. Therefore, as far as the first year was concerned, she didn't need insult this young witch, who must have magical powers, for the sake of knowing more about non-magic folk.
"...Nice school, isn't it?" And with that, Samantha had ended the silent and somewhat awkward pause that had come after her last remark.
Abigail Brown - January 6, 2007 05:40 PM (GMT)
"It' great. I never imagined it this way. I thought it would be smaller." ABy said as she finsihed eating her breakfast and took some pumpkin juice to drimk.
Samantha Peski - January 8, 2007 02:00 AM (GMT)
Smaller. Yes, that would have been nice. Indeed, Samantha wished it was a smaller school than this, for that would have meant less room for more students. But then again, a large school was also nice for the many places one had to hide about in it.
"Yes, that would have been nice," she replied, though she quickly corrected it, realising that the other had never neccessarily commented on not liking that it was larger than she had thought it was going to be, "I mean, yeah, so did I."
Abigail Brown - January 8, 2007 11:31 AM (GMT)
"Yeah, I guess sometimes I wish it was smaller, my other schools were so small compared to this, I get lost all the time." ABy said truthfully. She knew it was wierd to admit to getting lost, but why not say so. SHe didn't really care what Samantha thought about her anyway.
Harry Potter - January 26, 2007 01:41 AM (GMT)
Harry came down the rows of tables, looking for a place to sit. The only space available was next to two first years. Sighing, he sat next to them, wishing he'd gotten out of bed earlier.
"Good morning girls. What's up?" He smiled. They looked so shocked, he could've laughed.
