The 20 Best Couples in Historyby Patty Lamberti
When we first sat down to pick the best lovers in history, we came up with more than 70 couples that at least one Lifetime staff member thought fit the bill. Feeling that was too many couples for this exclusive club, we came up with some caveats. First, each of the pairs in this gallery made it past the seven-year itch, even if they did not make it to the "till death do you part" mark. In other words, don't expect to see Brangelina here; they've only been partners since 2005. Second, each couple in this gallery — even the ones that eventually split — proved beyond a reasonable doubt that during the time they were together, they were madly in love. (Sorry, Prince Charlie, you and Diana didn't earn a spot in our Hall of Fame.) And finally, we found three reasons why each of these 20 couples proved their love was stronger than the average duo's bond. Hopefully, you'll be inspired enough to pump up the love factor in your own relationship. So without further ado, welcome to the Lifetime Lovers' Hall of Fame!
Ozzy and Sharon OsbourneMarried since 1982
Why they made our list: • They prove love is blind. Sharon wasn’t always the svelte beauty she is today. She weighed more than 200 pounds until she underwent weight reduction surgery in 1999. But she didn’t undergo the procedure for Ozzy. He loved her because of her laugh, not her weight.
• Call them a modern-day Romeo and Juliet. They have a suicide pact — if one dies, the other will follow. There’s one caveat, though: The pact doesn’t kick in until 2012.
• Who says wives do all the cooking? Ozzy often prepares a special stew just for Sharon.
