Heavy rocker Ozzy Osbourne and wife Sharon left holiday-makers with mouths gaping as they strolled down Queenstown's Shotover Street on a shopping expedition yesterday. Ozzy is holidaying in the resort after playing at the Rock2Wellington gig during the Easter weekend with heavy metal acts that included Lordi, Kiss, Poison and Alice Cooper.

Minders kept The Southland Times from talking to Ozzy and Sharon. However, the pair were happy to mix with other shoppers as they wandered round the town. Three young women from Ireland who were holidaying in Queenstown bumped into the famous couple in a pharmacy.

"We saw Sharon first, she was so nice," Justine Miley said. After posing for a photo with Sharon, the group saw Ozzy too, Lisa Quigley said. "We saw him and asked him and he was really nice and said for everyone to get in (the photo)." The trio said they were used to meeting celebrities in Ireland, including Bono and Tiger Woods, but said the Osbournes were some of the best they had met.

Ozzy and Sharon are not the first Osbournes to set foot in Queenstown; son Jack visited the town in 2006 and 2007 to film episodes of his television show Adrenaline Junkie.

Heavy metal rocker Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon flew out of Auckland yesterday, saying their holiday in the tourist resort of Queenstown was a "little bit of heaven". The pair have been in the country after Ozzy Osbourne played at the Rock2WGTN gig during Easter weekend with other heavy metal acts that included Lordi, Kiss, Poison and Alice Cooper.

Osbourne is the lead vocalist of the English heavy metal band Black Sabbath but found a new generation of fans with the reality television show The Osbournes. Sharon Osbourne is a television presenter in Britain and was instrumental in reviving her husband's rock career. For the past week the flamboyant couple have been holidaying in Queenstown, where tourists and locals saw them out shopping and taking in the sights.

A burly American minder tried to keep the couple from NZPA at Auckland airport but the Osbournes were both happy to answer questions, with fans calling out "hi Ozzy!" as they walked by. The couple said they had loved their stay in New Zealand and hoped to return. When asked what the highlight of his visit was Ozzy seemed perplexed, and replied "That's a good question." Sharon Osbourne said their visit to Queenstown had been a "little bit of heaven" for the couple.
