Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne will host the Brits
Husband and wife Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne will host the next Brit Awards, it has been announced. The wacky couple will present the glittering music awards bash, which is being broadcast live for a second consecutive year, on ITV1. X Factor judge Sharon, 55, and rocker Ozzy, 58, are bound to cause trouble before the 9pm watershed, when the show goes out, with their tendency to use swear words.

Earlier this year, Russell Brand sparked controversy when he made risque references to "intimate parts of the human body", drugs, Iraq, the Queen and Robbie Williams. There were more than 500 complaints about the jokes and swearing which took place live on air before the 9pm watershed.

Sharon said today (Thursday): "Ozzy and I have been asked to host many awards shows in the past but this is by far the most prestigious and meaningful, especially for Ozzy as it's about the music. "Ozzy and I are proud to be Brits and are both incredibly honoured to have been asked to help celebrate the best in music." Ged Doherty, Chairman of the Brits committee, said: "Rock 'n' roll, glamour, humour and a touch of the unexpected. Sharon and Ozzy will bring all this to the Brits and more. I can't wait." The Brits take place at Earls Court on February 20, after the nominations are announced at London's Roundhouse on January 14.
A Brits spokesman denied a previous report that Brand had been expected to return to host the 2008 show.

I'm a bit unsure about it to be honest :fear:

Me too. Sharon doesn't work well with scripts and autocues at all. And I'm guessing the same is true as far as Ozzy's concerned, too.

kirstirini - November 29, 2007 09:05 PM (GMT)
That's what I was thinking

Red - November 29, 2007 10:12 PM (GMT)
yeah, i agree kirstin and jo. i would have thought they would have learned from the last time they hosted an awards show!

lola 14 - November 29, 2007 10:52 PM (GMT)
But the Brits is supposed to be "out there" and outragous. We normally get a host who pretends to be that, but Sharon and Ozzy are that anyway. Apart from that, they are both very funny.

Tallulah - November 29, 2007 10:55 PM (GMT)
But 'outrageous' and 'awful' are very different things.

Red - November 29, 2007 11:06 PM (GMT)
well, the AMAs here (which they hosted in 2003, along with Kelly and Jack) weren't more terrible than they normally are. the whole show was sharon just blathering, scaring everyone in the entire audience whereas Ozzy looked totally petrified. kelly and jack weren't half bad though IMO.

Faabulous!!! - November 29, 2007 11:11 PM (GMT)
Well I cant wait to see this, it should be fun.

memmie - November 30, 2007 12:20 AM (GMT)
I'm looking forward to it! I know they're both a bit crap at autocue's etc, but I think they're fun to watch, even if a bit embarrassing at times  And I'm looking forward to seeing them interacting with the other presenters and winners etc. Should be fun to watch!

Tallulah - November 30, 2007 12:46 AM (GMT)
If it works out that way, then cool. But I think it's much more likely that they'll be mocked mercilessly by the media ... mmmmm yes I do.

sharonfan101 - December 1, 2007 12:17 AM (GMT)
Rock royalty Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne are to host the 2008 Brit Awards: the clip on youtube

Nicole - December 1, 2007 03:01 PM (GMT)
Gonna love this, but damn it being before 9pm (why is it only 18+ allowed there then) They are so gonna accidently swear or something.

loveheart - December 1, 2007 05:56 PM (GMT)
I think itll be good, but i agree jo theyre gonna get mocked by the media

The timing makes little difference. It will be on delay anyway, and last year they still chopped Oasis' closing performance to bits, even though it was well after the watershed.

loveheart - December 2, 2007 03:54 PM (GMT)
yeah on the radio i heard its going to be delayed by 5 seconds :)

vic128p - December 4, 2007 06:11 PM (GMT)

Sharon Gets The Axe - BRIT Of Trouble For Osbournes - Dead Lozz

user posted image

Pop fans are urging ITV1 chiefs to dump Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne as host of next year's BRIT Awards - because they fear the odd-ball couple will turn it into a "fiasco." Serious music fans fear letting the foul-mouthed pair loose at the event will to be the biggest BRIT Awards disaster for nearly 20 years. They've flooded internet sites and forums to voice their concerns that next February’s event will be the biggest car-crash televised event since Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood fronted the BRIT Awards in 1989.

Music fans have flooded internet forums with their dismay at the choice of hosts. Stereo-man claimed: "Sharon has shown in the last three and a half years how completely out-of-touch she is with pop music, managing to be a complete failure as a mentor on XFactor. I dunno what will happen. Sharon will try to be witty and Ozzy will play up his lack of mental faculties. I pity the scriptwriters who have to punch up their banter." Another fan, Listentome, added: "It will be 1989 all over again! Sharon had two chat shows axed, don't they realised she can't carry a show?"

Rubber-soul moaned: "Terrible choice. I like Ozzy, but he's not suitable at all for obvious reasons. As for Sharon, her manner of speaking and behaviour can be erratic and odd... Terrible choice." Sloopy wrote: "All more the reason NOT to watch this annual two hours of hell ... Never mind the fact Mrs Osbourne is a vulgar old witch and Ozzy hasn't strung a coherent sentence together since 1987."

One ITV source admitted: "Let's just say that this couple wouldn't have been our first choice - but it isn't all down to us. There is a BRIT Awards committee. It looks good on paper having Ozzy and Sharon - but in reality, without any editing, going as live, it could be a disaster. That stage can be a very lonely place if things start going wrong during the coverage - look at Ricky Gervais during the Diana concert having to fill for ten minutes. He struggled and made a fool of himself and he's a witty stand-up comedian. People like Chris Evans, Stephen Fry and Jonathan Ross really earn their corn at big live events like this ... they make it look easy, but it isn't. "No disprespect to Sharon - and Ozzy - but they are no Jonathan Ross or Chris Evans, or even Davina McCall. The last pair who tried to host this was Frank Skinner and Zoe Ball five years ago - they bombed and of course Sam (Fox) and Mick (Fleetwood) were also a disaster."

ITV1 bosses have already decided to introduce a time delay into the whole show - amid fears the foul-mouthed pair will turn it into a "swear-fest." An insider said: "It would be madness to let someone as foul-mouthed as Ozzy and his wife go out live before 9pm. However professional you are the pressures of live television can get to you and executives cannot take the risk."

Last year's bash, hosted by Russell Brand, 32, attracted more than 500 complaints over its risque content. And panicky network executives feared letting foul-mouthed Ozzy, 59 and 55-year-old Sharon loose on before the 9pm watershed could prove an even bigger disaster. Their reality show The Osbournes was famous for being packed with bad-language. Sources reveal that, although the coverage will be billed as going out live, there will be a delay of at least five seconds and as much as 20 seconds to allow any swear-words to be "bleeped" out.

A television insider revealed: "It was all set to go live but there's been a change of heart. We just couldn't take the chance on anything unsuitable slipping out. In the current climate the last thing ITV needs right now is a huge scandal over swearing before the watershed." However, the delay is likely to continue throughout the whole show. "It will be explained away as having a time delay for 'production reasons' - but really it's because they fear it could go pear-shaped."

Sharon has insisted the couple will be on their best behaviour when the show goes out in February. She said: "Ozzy and I have been asked to host many awards shows in the past but this is by far the most prestigious and meaningful, especially for Ozzy as it's about the music. Ozzy and I are proud to be BRITs and are both incredibly honoured to have been asked to help celebrate the best in music."

An ITV1 spokesowman said: "Sharon and Ozzy are the chosen hosts and I'm sure they will do a terrific job."

I love Sharon and Ozzy, I think they rock, but I have to confess that I fear this will turn out to be a public disaster

chocolatelover - December 6, 2007 11:50 AM (GMT)
i agree i love them aswel but i can see this going wrong

miss_fabulous - December 6, 2007 05:02 PM (GMT)
I think that they should have a chance at presenting it!! :gleam: I think it will make great t.v...they've presented things before... I think they're both great!!! Lol  x x x x

Mrs O rox! - December 8, 2007 08:46 AM (GMT)
I think this is a load of rubbish to be honest! Why would it be a fiasco? They are having a five second delay or whatever it is so that they can bleep out any swearing but I can't see them having to bleep out much. Let's look at the X Factor: Does Sharon turn that into a fiasco? No. It's just the same as that in my oppinion

i agree

if she was that much of a risk they wouldn't of even let her do x factor.

Gabi - December 8, 2007 02:00 PM (GMT)
Sharon doesn't present XF though...

Mrs O rox! - December 8, 2007 05:18 PM (GMT)
What does it matter what role she has within the program? The judges have more of a role than the presenter in my opinion. The producers of X factor trust her enough not to have a delay and they have been working with her for several years.

Amy - December 8, 2007 05:20 PM (GMT)
Different show, more responsibility. Sharon has less than 20 minutes to speak throughout an XF show, this show will go on for hours, barely edited - she's bound to mess up at least once.

Gabi - December 8, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
There's no need for the tone

I wasn't referring to them not trusting her to watch her language etc. in regard to the censorship/delay issue, though God love her that has been somewhat of an issue on XF it has to be said.

What I meant however, is that on XF she has to come up with spontaneous comments and give her opinion. She's great at that. What she's not great at, as chat shows on both sides of the Atlantic have proved, is scripted presenting. The role she has within the program has absolutely everything to do with it. There's no time keeping, ear piece instruction following, cutting to breaks, filling time, general keeping things ticking over pressure on XF as a judge, only as the presenter.
