Hi
Has any one fitted a zinc anode to the lift keel in their evolution. With a boat on a mooring the keel can corrode. On my old Jaguar 22, the lift keel was fitted with a zinc anode and it clearly protected the keel from corrosion. Thus I would like to do this with my new Evolution.
Any ideas.
Thanks Jasper
It certanly cant hurt to put an anode on.
Interesting that you had a Jag 22, I had a 21 untill last week! Were you on the Jaguar owners site?
Stuart.
Hi Stuart,
Yes I was on the Jaguars website. I still have the J22 up for sale. It was a great boat but not enough room and not as good as the evolution when offshore. Last year we spent 28 nights on board exploring the south coast. We hope to go further along the coast with a Evolution. I looked at the Evo 26 but it did not have enough head room, and hence I wanted an Evo 25 which has the raised roof. When we get a trailer (when we can afford one) we want to trailer sail further afield.
What is your Evo 26 like?
Why did you upgrade?
Regards Jasper
Hi Jasper
I had the Jaguar for 2 years and realy enjoyed sailing her, however the interior was realy too small for even weekending in any comfort during a typical English summer. The 22 is slightly better than the 21 from that point of veiw as it doesnt have the floor to ceiling keel case right through the middle of the boat, but I applaud you for spending that many nights aboard, my wife wouldnt have made it past 2.8!
I chose the Evolution for a few reasons, which combined to make the list of suitable boats in my quite low price range rather small!
I needed a boat which could live on my drying mooring as Im still about 4 years down the list for a deap water one. It also needed to be a reasonable boat to race ie not twin keel and have decent accomodation for cruising.
These factors effectivly made up a list of 3, the Evolution 25 / 26 and the Super Seal. The deciding factor ended up being availability, with Redshank being available in Falmouth and ending up at the right price we looked no further.
As you will have gatherd from my other posts we have encounterd a problem with rusting ballast which was not expected and is taking rather a long time to fix. Other than that I have to do a small repair to the deck due to delamination and water ingress as well as normal new boat things like updating the instruments and polishing the hull. I intend to be back on the water for the end of April so Il find out how well she goes then.
If you cruise down into Devon come into Teignmouth, there is a deap water visitors pontoon, although you need a dinghy as its not attached to the shore, being about 30 yards from the river beach. Dont be put off by the pilot books, the entrance is fine apart from on a falling tide and strong easterly. The entrance is now bouyed with the "sewer bouy" about a mile off shore being a good land fall. If you are interested in racing we have a regatta with racing for IRC rated yachts on the 26-27/7/08.
All the best
Stuart
