Title: Selkie

Dennis Holden - February 5, 2008 10:01 PM (GMT)
Model Evolution 26
Name Selkie (Formerly Selene)
Sail no 22
Masthead rig
Engine 13.5hp Beta diesel
Berthed Chichester Marina

With her mast head rig and alloy pivoting rudder I am assuming she was one of the early boats built around 1980 but would welcome any information on this. The previous owner kept her in Poole harbour and completed a comprehensive refit including a new teak interior and new engine. The keel is operated with an electric hydraulic pump which hoists the keel up in seconds. The topsides have been sprayed and the hull has been epoxied and Copper Coat applied. She looks in very good condition and visitors think she is much newer. I have added a pressurised fresh water system, a hot water calorifier and a gas warm air heater.

After her purchase in 2005 we kept her on a drying mooring near our home in Shoreham, West Sussex. In 2006 we had a custom trailer made by R M Trailers who have the hull drawings for this model. With a 3.0L Isuzu Trooper we towed her to the West Coast of Scotland for the summer and cruised the waters around Mull and the Firth of Lorne. In 2007 we moved her to Chichester and are now able to sail much more frequently.

My wife and I are in our 60's a but have found her to be an ideal boat for cruising and a delight to sail. Although we don't race it is very satisfying to outsail bigger boats!

Incidently in 1981 I bought an Evolution 25 from Evolution yachts in Christchurch although the boat was actually made by Fletcher Sportsboats in Staffordshire. I completed this boat (Name - Hunca Munca) from a bare hull and sailed her around the Irish Sea until selling in 1987. Although they share the same hulls the 26 is better balanced then the 25.
